DIY OEM ITR trunk brace, completed w/ pics.
I've been wanting to do this for a while. Using GSR-rex's excellent instructions, I finally got around to doing it. First i sanded the trunk brace and then sprayed it w/ a couple of coats of flat black enamel. The only problems I kind of ran into was making the template in the plastic panel, I made the holes rather large because I didnt want to have to do it again in case they were too small. Also, its a pretty darn tight fit when you are holding the nut from underneath the car after the bumper is remounted. Other than that, it was cake. On a side note, don't use craftsman's worst drill to drill the holes in your car, if it wasn't for the bit I had (which cost almost half of the drill's price), I would have definitely lost the battle. Here are some pictures. Thanks again to GSR-rex for his awesome instructions, and egjoe for the brace itself.

I daily drive this car, and use the trunk all the time.
Very cool pics. I myself am obsessed with strut bars of any fashion. Are these bars applicable in the Sedan as well? Or is there a different version? tia.

If you look at this link https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=291430 and then take out your rear panel, and if its similar, I'm pretty sure it will work. The only way to really know I guess is to find out if the JDM 4 door ITR came w/ one stock. But even if it didn't there should be a way to make it work.
when doing this trunk brace .....i took the panel off and the bar doesn't match up to any of the factory holes?you had to drill the holes to use this oem trunk bar?

if any, its probably as much help as the RLTB or the c pillar bars...=T
but it adds up! PLUS, it looks cool

I wouldnt even mess around with that type r trunk brace, if your going to do something in the trunk, do a triangle connecting the strut towers and the rear trunk.
You guys are pretty much wasting your time and money doing this mod. I took this bar out of my Type R while I was doing some interior cleaning and forgot to put it back in, it sat in my garage for 2 years. I absolutely never felt even the slightest difference. Maybe in theory it works, but for real world applications, I would put the money into a more usefull mod, like tires.
For those looking for a performance mod, stay away from this one, for those who want to get their POS as close as possible to an R, pay up, because that's all you'll be doing

First off, I don't have any supporting facts, so this is just my opinion. But I will have to disagree with this statement.
If the bar didn't add any benefit, then I seriously doubt Honda would have put a brace there stock on the Type-R. I'm not falling for the "its an itr, it must be fast" crap, I'm just saying. Honda created the itr to be better, (mild port and polish, cams, factory header, chassis reinforcement, stiffer springs and rear swaybar) and I doubt they would have spent the money on a brace if it didn't make a difference, especially for a brace that isn't visible bling.
Then again, an otherwise stock gsr or ls might not benefit as much. Without the rest of the handling improvements, the gain might be minimal. Now, I'm personally running my gsr on 400/400 springs, and I could definately feel the difference when I put the stock front strut bar back on (it was off to modify it to fit around the GC top hats), but it was only noticeable during autocross, and only really for turn in. So chassis stiffening probably isn't the best way to improve a car's handling, but any gain is gain. I would only look into it after better springs, shocks, and tires are already on the car.
