Basically, it wont fit unless you can rig up some kind of mounting kit. Click the link below for more info...

I'm gonna make it fit! I'll figure something out...its gotta fit somehow!

If I get it to fit, I'll post some pics so others can try it.

So, nobody has even attempted it?

I don't know but I think it will work. if you look any gsr has pre threader holes in the exact same place, so something has to go there.

Actually, the threaded GSR holes aren't in the exact same spot. (I compared it with my Brother's ITR)
But, there are blank holes already in the correct spot..if I could get behind the sheetmetal somehow, I know I could get a nut on the bolt.
I'm gonna at least try...

yes, it will fit. i help my friend install one in his LS. all you have to do is drill the holes and bolt it on.

but if you don't have the itr truck panel, you will have to cut your stock one somehow.

lay on the ground and look up toward the rear bumper reinforcement. after you drill the holes, stick a screw driver through it, you will see where the nut and bolt will have to go. you will need a second person there to help you screw the nut in while you hold on to the bolt.

good luck

how about the J's Racing trunk tower bar? jdmhondaparts has it for sale. this looks like a bolt on part with less hassle than adapting the itr piece.

Excellent...I knew there was a way!

I plan on using the rear trunk panel out of my brother's 98 ITR as a template! Then I'll just cut out the pieces with my dremmel.

lay on the ground and look up toward the rear bumper reinforcement. after you drill the holes, stick a screw driver through it, you will see where the nut and bolt will have to go. you will need a second person there to help you screw the nut in while you hold on to the bolt.

Awesome!!! I'm gonna get under there when I get home and take a look!

Update...
I took out my rear interior panel lastnight and did some research. The holes that are already there are not spaced properly to fit this bar. Upon further investigation, I got under the car and found those two parallel frame rails that run the length of the car.
Now...stick with me here on this--> In the ITR, the trunk brace is mounted in the rear hatch area and ties together those rails...but what if you mounted the bar under the car on those two frame rails. I'd have to take off the rear bumper cover to get where I need to, and I'd also have to drill two holes, but I think it will have the same end result. That result being the two rails tied together at the rear of the car. The bar would be hidden under the bumper cover, but I don't really care about that.

I'm gonna take pics as I go, so if it works, maybe we'll have a NEW mod for the TEG.
Any comments on this...anybody already thought about doing this or have done it?

GSR-REX,

Please keep us informed. I just bought a ITR trunk brace and I would like to know how to install it as well.

Will do. I'm sure that it will have the same effect as mounting it in the trunk. I have thought and thought about it and I really don't see the difference. But, then I think "If it doesn't matter where its mounted, why didn't Honda do it this way?"
I dunno...I'm going to at least try it.

Update:
The place in which I thought I could mount it under the bumper cover is a NO go. I should have known better The place I thought I could mount it turned out to be the actual bumper!...can't mount it there!
So...I am back to mounting it in the same spot as the ITRs.

The hardest part is going to be removing the bumper cover, but honestly, it comes off pretty easily, so even that's not so bad. (I did it the other night in no time at all)
I'm have to paint the trunk bar I have since it had some scratches on it when I bought it. So once that's done, I'll begin the install.
I'm still planning on taking pics so that everybody can see how I did it and hopefully be able to do it themselves.
That's all 4 now....

Update:
I was successful in putting on my ITR trunk brace this weekend!!
It really wasn't that hard and total install time was only about 90 minutes
It sure as hell makes the rear feel stiffer.

I took pics as I went along and will be posting my steps here tomorrow. Whats the best site to host my pics?

OK...
Here is some basic instructions on installing the ITR trunk brace on a 94-01 GSR. I would suggest a medium level skill set for the install. There are a few sticky parts that require some skill, but overall it wasn't that bad. If you have any specific questions about any of this, please feel free to PM me. I just put it on this weekend, so its fresh in my head

You'll need to buy (2) 3/8 x 1.5" bolts (2) 3/8 nylon locknuts and (4) 3/8 washers. I bought mine at Home Depot and it only cost me $2.40
You'll also need a small level, a sharpie, and a buddy to help with holding some stuff.

Before you start, reach up into the open cavity above the license plate and unhook the license plate light fixtures. (this will help you later when the bumper cover is free)

1. Remove the rear plastic interior piece from the hatch area. The piece is held in by 7 plastic grommets. (push the center piece in on the grommet and then pull it out)

2. Remove the four 10mm nuts from the interior that hold the bumper cover on. There are two that are visible and two that are behind the side panels. I just peeled the side covers back and removed the nuts. (I don't see a need to remove the side panels unless you feel more comfortable doing it that way)
[img]http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/wetoddimage.wtdr?i=wMTQwMDc2czQxM2RmZDMxeTU0MQ%3D% 3D[/img

3. Remove the screws that hold on the bumper cover near the tire. (if you have OEM mudflaps, you'll have to remove two more screws that hold them on.) I found that jacking the car up made it alot easier to get to the mudflap screws.

4. remove the two bolts found on the underside of the bumper cover directly under the license plate.

5. Grab your buddy from the TV room and get his help....Remove the bumper cover.

The place that the bar is going to be mounted is shown in the photo below.

6. You'll notice that on one side of the bar, the hole is oval and on the other it is round. I started with the oval side because it was easier to line it up.

(sticky part)-->Hold the bar in place on the mounting points with the holes on the bar situated level with the two holes already there. (these are the holes that the interior plastic piece attaches to with the grommets). Now, even out the bar as best you can by "eyeing" it in the middle of the mounting points. (it doesn't have to be perfect since that is what the oval is there for.)

Take the sharpie and mark the oval hole.

7. Take the bar out of the way and drill in the middle of the oval shape you just drew with the sharpie. Drill all of the way through until the bit comes out the back of the car.

8. Place the bar on the hole and insert one of the 3/8 bolts and washers into it until it comes out the other side. place another washer and the nylon lock nut on the end of the bolt. Tighten down the nut, but only until it is barely snug...don't tighten it too tight...you'll have to be able to move the bar.

9. Once the end is secure, move it around so that it's even between the mounting points. Use the level to make sure the bar is straight and mark the other hole with the sharpie. Drill again all the way through until the bit comes out. Place the other bolt and washer through and make sure all is straight and level.

10. Once everything checks out, remove all bolts and take the bar out of the car.

11. Now we have to cut the interior piece to accept the new bar. Place the interior piece on the ground and then place the bar on top of it. (I taped the bar in place on the panel so it wouldn't move while I was marking it). Use the sharpie and mark where you're going to need to cut. Refer to the following pic to see the shape of the hole. (picture shows the LEFT side..the right is just the opposite.)

12. Remove the bar from the interior piece and cut the holes you just marked. ( I used a dremmel and cutting wheel for mine..then smoothed it out with a sanding wheel.) Once the holes are cut, test the bar on it and see if it fits on there.

**Note...Since we have just drilled through bare sheetmetal on the car, I suggest masking off the holes and primering them. This will prevent rust from forming around the hole later on. Just a suggestion...ya don't have to do it if ya don't want!

13. Now we get to put everything back together!!! Grab your buddy again and have him help place the bumper cover back on and then get everything secured. Then place the interior piece back on so that all is normal again.

14. Take the bar and bolts and install it where you just drilled the holes and cut the interior piece. Once the bolts are in place, you'll need to get under the car and find where the bolts are sticking out. They are easy to reach and should not pose any problem in getting to it since the bolt comes out right above the bumper support.

15. Have your friend hold a wrench on the nut and tighten it down until its tight.

16. Take a look at your new ITR trunk brace.

Now...that wasn't so hard was it!

Any questions...feel free to Pm me or post 'em up!
