EF - speaker question
shallow mounting depth is pissing me off
what is everyone here doing as far as door speakers?
i have some ~1 year old shallow mount depth kenwood 6.5s right now but i want to go with components in the future and im having trouble finding some that will fit.
anyone have experience with the infinity reference series components in particular??
oh and also would i be better off looking at 5.25" sets as opposed to the 6.5"
i know jl makes a 6" set in their VR series but thats a little more than i wanted to spend. tia

Have you looked into getting a component set that can be mounted just like coaxial set up?I know Kicker and Boston Acoustics make them and there becoming more popular. No extra holes, also people won't try to steal what they can't see. Most thieves look for things like sub box in the trunk or seperates up front. They know that a pair of seperates aren't cheap even for a cheap line.Any way I'm looking at the same thing. Also there are now coaxials that offer a crossover attached to them to give you higher quality sound that you get from the seperates. If you need specifics on mounting sizes and depths go to ww.crutchfield.com you may even find what your looking for ,but atleast you can get specific info or Email them they may be able to suggest another option.

have you taken out the plastic factory cup yet and cut off the back of it? That will give you about an other 3/4" of depth to play with... otherwise if thats not enough take out the cup completely.. trace it onto a piece of 3/4" MDF and use that as the mounting plate... probably at least want to paint it or coat in fiberglass resin so it won't swell over time... I was able to fit image dynamics 6.5" "subs" or the Polk DBs i have now
hey dohc dx did you go with 5.25 or 6.5" for the kappas??
im thinking i should maybe stick wih 5.25s
btw thanks for all the suggestions everyone. i think im going to go with the new infinity reference comps with matching coaxials in the rear.
just got to decide what size im going to use.
5.25s for the rear but im not sure if i should try and squeeze in 6.5s up front hmmmmm

i have a hatch though
so that isnt really an option
for a sub im planning a single sealed 12 in a glassed spare tire enclosure
either infinity perfect 12.1 or JL 12W3
i havnt decided which just yet

How about kick panels?
There's some kick panels listed on ebay
They seem to be aftermarket with built-on tweeters (of course you'll have to buy yur ow tweets and install them)
but it's kind of like a 2for1 deal

It may look sweet but the sound is horrible. Just custom make one out of 3/4 in. or larger MDF.[Modified by CR-X, 5:07 PM 12/14/2001]
