Cheap brake upgrade... 16" wheels needed... 11.6", 28mm rotors, single piston.
Well, tonight I found an easy upgrade people can do to their Type R's brakes for cheap and with no bleeding issues.
The 1999 and up RL brakes bolt up well (only need spacers and longer caliper mounting bolts)
The RL disc are much thicker, and are hubcentric.
Credit goes to Brian??? at fastbrakes who told me 6 months ago that the setup should work.
I'll try to post a how to soon, but the basic procedure is the same as mounting legend calipers.

The specs of the rl setup:
Ventilated 11.8 in (300 mm) diameter; 1.1 in (28 mm) rotor thickness
Total Swept Area Front: 63.5 sq in (409.6 cm2)
If someone wants to host it, I can do a write up.
Once again, the RL Setup Bolts up and only need 1.5mm thick specers for the caliper bracket.
Also, Anyone using the legend twin piston calipers can just change the rotors and caliper brackets to get the bigger brakes and the twin pistons.

Hi all. I'm going to write the report up this weekend.
If anyone in the NYC area has access to S2K Calipers, we could meet up and see if they would eliminate the need for spacers when using rl discs... pm me if you want to set something up. My car is on a lift and it would take less than 10 minutes.

I've been too busy to finish the write up so far.
I did take pictures when I assembled it, and it's really easy to do.
Parts required are:
-1999-up RL Calipers and brackets. Also need the longer RL caliper bolts.
-1999 and up RL discs (24$ each at Napa)
-17-7 Stainless steel washers from Mcmaster- I have the part number at home, but they are 1/2" hole and about $5.75 for five washers.
-4 oem honda crush washers
-brake fluid.
You basically have to unbolt the old calipers and discs, trim the brake sheilds, and bolt the new calipers and discs on putting the spacers in between the caliper brackets and the knuckles.
I'm pretty sure 16" wheels are needed (I am using rsx wheels and they are perfect) Maybe some wacky offset 15's would work but I don't know.

a few pictures of the test fitting before I received the correct washers. These washers are too thin

Thanks to Bbasso for these!!!!

The Washers I used:

The Spacing - note the gap in the rustier knuckle and the caliper bracket. THe spacer goes there:

Yah I know... my brand new discs are already rusty... (shrugs)

The finished result - This shows the brakes under 16" RSX wheels which are cheap:

Ok so my car's not a Type R... To all ITR lovers out there, I promise that this suspension is Legit - it took me a year to find it and it was off a Canadian R (Chassel Auto in Montreal) that had sustained damage to the driver side. The Left rear LCA was bent and had to be swapped out for an SI piece... Ever since I've had the R suspension, I've been paranoid of getting my car stolen

A-Hem,
I must toot my own horn here and tell you that it was myself, along with another HT member here that figured this one out.
I told Brian at Fastbrakes about it when I ordered my RL calipers from him about a year ago. Brian rocks, please buy your brake parts from him.
Here's the setup on one of my Civic's (16" Euro R wheels):

The Euro R wheels are for sale, BTW (shameless plug):

I have tracked this brake configuration on my other Civic and it works great. I, however, used the NSX caliper bolts, legend 2-piston calipers, and I bought my spacer washers from Home Depot - $0.59. Perfect offset! You do have to run 16" wheels though, I am not aware of any 15" wheels which will fit. I have the 17" TSX optional wheels on one of my Civics and those brakes look great under there.
I'm currently installing NSX rear brakes on the same car - once Brian ships me my rotors!
:-)

Hi Jeff,
Thats great that you figured it out a year ago with help from Brian. As I said in my first post, credit goes to Brian at fastbrakes for telling me 6 months ago that it should work. It's too bad you didn't write about it when you figured it out as I'm sure many people could have benefitted from your knowledge
I also had the legend twin pistons to fit on the RL brackets, but they weren't in good enough shape for me to use.
Finally, please don't use this information thread to try to sell your stuff...
Thanks

I am using RL calipers - they have one piston only.
If you want, you can use RL caliper brackets and the Legend Calipers bolted to the RL brackets.

So because the upgrade is determined on the knuckle points and the ITR's hub, it should be fair to conclude that anyone with a Civic (EX/Si only) or Integra knuckle with the ITR hub in it will be able to do this as well, since the caliper bracket mount points are the same, and the hub will have the same offset from the bearing.
humm you sure it wont fit under some 15s? nemesis0104 has NSX calipers in the front with legand rotors and they clear Mazda Milenia wheels
