WWASSSSUUPPP, im doing a SOHC VTEC engine swap for a friend's CRX and i know theres three gen's of the SOHC VTEC motor, but all im curious about is if anyone knows which one has the most power? the 1st and 2nd gen VTEC engines or the 3rd gen VTEC-E engine? im refereing to the 1.6 motors, not the 1.5's. so if onyone has some good knowledge about these motors, it will be greatly appreciated. thanks.

 

not really sure what the generations are that you are talking about....I just know the d16z6 (92-95) and the d16y8 (96-00) ...the y8 has a couple more hp than the z6 and has slightly higher compression and a bit better flow I believe.

I kinda think 'vtec e' is out of the vx's and is an economy vtec for gas mileage....but not sure.

 

i am refereing to the 92-95 models,, i think the 96-up was the start of the VTEC-E and i did hear that it was some kinda econo gas saver motor, like i really need that or something,haha, thanks for info. does anyone know the HP on the 1.6 SOHC VTEC engine? (92-95)

 

Around 125 hp at the flywheel,.....I think( stock ).

 

vtec-e put's out 92 hp at the crank and sohc vtec puts out 125 at the crank. I believe all generations of the same engine put out the same amount of power. vtec-e's come out of vx hatches only, I believe they were only made in 92-93.

VTEC-E sucks. Came in 1992-1995 Civic VX hatches ONLY. 92hp.

VTEC D16Z6 came in 1992-1995 Si hatch and EX 4 door and 1993-1995 EX Coupes 125hp

VTEC-E 115hp version came in 1996-up Civic HX coupe. Still economy.

 

yeah the vtec-e came out of the vx hatchback. i had one in my civic and it sucked!! (good on gas etc.) i think the correct one you want is the d16z6 or d16y8.
right now i have the d16z6 and it is pretty quick for a sohc. (for the cash) I/H/E
