Odd MPFI Question (searched)
Well here goes... I have a d16y7 motor in my rex, but its DPFI... Well so far I have a 96 civic TB, with injectors, a resistor box and a pm6 ecu. My question is do I need a new dizzy since its already from a 96 civic shouldnt it be ready for the mpfi? Also, please let me know if these are all the parts required.
Thanks for the input

So what kind of dist. am I going to need? A CRX Si one? Or some kind of civic one? I was thinking this would work because the d16y7 is already supposed to be MPFI, they just didnt install the intake manifold or the ECU for the civic, they left the DPFI ones in there.
I'm sorry, but considering you proclaimed that you searched...you sure seem uninformed about what you need for a mpfi swap.
On every mpfi swap how-to I have ever read, they do state that you are needing D16A6 parts. WAIT!!!! Don't try to search that, lord knows there will be another thread about it. An 88-91 CRX or Civic Si distributor is needed. Good luck to you.
P.S. Don't plan on driving your car long unless you are using some injectors from an 88-91 CRX or Civic Si.
P.P.S I hope your intake manifold is from a manual Civic EX. If not, well do some searching for D16Y8 intake manifold swaps that the owners of 96-00 Civic DX's and LX's do.

He can run the OBD2 injectors fine, he just will need to solder the 5 wires together that would normally go to the resistor box and remove it.

Good for posting that information, b/c I would assume he would still just do the wiring as one of the conversion pages says how. If someone was asking about which distributor to use, I doubt that he would know the difference. Blown90hatcH: you have pm!!
Well i appreciate the advice anthough I am still unsure if I am going to need a new dist or not because my y7 one was orig. made for MPFI, but as I said, its currently on my DPFI setup. And yes my manifold is for a manual, and I have two sets of injectors (8), but have no idea what the diff. is between them. And Blown90hatcH thanks for the advice on wiring the injectors together instead of the resistor box, too bad i already bought one though. by the way notfastenough, im sorry im not as ******* genious as you when it comes to OBD, which I know next to nothing about, but thanks for the advice anyways
obd0 ecu =obd0 dizzy
obd1 ecu=obd1 dizzy
obd2 ecu=obd2 dizzy
^ better follow that or it wont run! lol
if your doing the swap just convert to mpfi not that hard i had to do mine in my dx also if you need asnyhelp or get stuck pm me

Not true. You can run OBD1/2 distributors with OBD1/2 ecus. OBD2 distributor + OBD1 ecu = OK. OBD1 distributor + OBD2 ecu = OK.
You just can not run the OBD1/2 distributor with the OBD0 ecu.

Thanks, now I guess I just need to figure out what type me ECU is, it only says PM6 and some serial numbers. So even though my engine is a d16y7 civic engine, I will still need a new dist. from a crx or civic si? Also, will I need the injector resistor? And hey thanks blo2k1, but I hope I wont have to ask for help

OBd0 ecu. If you are going to run the OBD0 ecu, then you must have the MPFI OBD0 distributor. If you want to run the OBD0 MPFI injector setup, then you must use the resistor box.

By the part numbers, plugs, and resistance.

Distributor: Two Milky white plugs = OBD0. Two grey plugs = OBd1. One big grey plug = OBD2.
Injectors: You are going to need to measure the resistance across the contacts.

THanks for the continued help guys. 4dref you've helped me before and i appreciate it very much. Blown90Hatch, nice car beautiful engine and a very informative site you've hosted. I just have one final question.. If I find out my dist is already OBD-0 I can re-use it on the MPFI swap without getting a new one because it will all match up, right? (I am still learning this OBD type stuff, thanks again for the info guys.
There is a difference between an obd0 dpfi distributor and an obd0 mpfi distributor. A difference that can not be easily changed. You need an obd0 mpfi distibutor from a CRX Si or Civic SI. I'm not afraid of helping you dispite what you think of me...nor what I think of you...period.
