Urgent Help Needed: HATCH WILL NOT OPEN!
Hey guys, something fucked up has happened
. My car is a 2000 LS. Today when I arrived at school I parked, went to open the hatch to get my books and such, and I flip the little lever to the left and pull up as you normally would, and it just made a humming sound of like a little motor
. It was unlocked, I know that for sure, It is able to lift up a little bit, you can wiggle it, but the actual release mechanism would not work. I held the little lever and it kept making that humming motor noise. I pulled and pulled and it wouldnt release the latch. I need help on how to fix this as soon as possible, I use my hatch all of the time so this is very important to me. I have no idea what could have happened and i already searched. All help is appreciated.
Thanks

Common problem.
When mine does it I just lock, and then unlock the doors again - make sure the hatch is latched completely (apply pressure on it, try not to dent it)

The lever activates an electronic latch mechanism on '98+ Integras. However, the latch can also be released using the key in the rear hatch keyhole.

my car does this ALL THE TIME-- its a 98... if the latch wont open, the key doesnt work either... just drive around and it loosens it self eventually.... i dont know what it is, but if u just drive and try later it opens... thats why i keep nothing in my hatch. sucks
When honda made integras they consumed a lock mechinism on the hatch as well as the front 2 doors, if the hatch was locked with a key recently then it will not open unless u go inside your car and lock the car from the inside then unlock the drivers side door(get out and go to the back and use the key to unlock the hatch) make sure that the hatch isnt slightly open before doing so.
I have a 95 integra gsr 2-door its happened to me twice. It should work for you

go out and get yourself a helper monkey to live in your hatch area.. teach it how to fold down your back seats & whenever you need something from that area, it will bring them to you up front.
My 99 Integra did the same thing, that electronic latch is a piece of crap on the 98+ models.. Do what greaseball says, it worked the same way for me too..

Thanks a bunch man.
I went and tried this and it worked! So the gay thing is i will have to do this all of the time now when i open my hatch.
Well does anyone know how to fix this crappy problem. Like not just a solution or bypass, but I mean a repair so that it will operate like new.

well the obvious solution would be to replace the elec. latch! unfortunately it will only last as long as your last one did due to a shitty design. you should at least be happy you can open it at all!
