Need OEM replacement axles and bearings!
I recently wore out my drivers side rear bearing which in turn has destroyed the splines on the corresponding driveshaft (according to the stealership). I know for sure the bearing is trashed and need to find a good place to get replacement OEM parts. Honda quoted me ~$1,200 for the job. They also didn't know that I am a Materials Science and Engineering major. I'd rather pay the same price or less and learn how to do it myself. With the proper tools the job doesn't seem very serious. However, I can't find a good place to purchase tools (Honda service manual lists about 10 "special tools"). Has anyone performed this job before? I need as much advice as possible concerning what tools are recommended and where to get the parts. I don't like being without my S and want to get this taken care of as soon as possible. Lastly, do people who track their cars replace bearings often (I heard it's a parts bin civic bearing)?
beats me what bearing your asking about (wheel)?
if anyone can measure the distance of their engine for me that would be awsome. i need to know the distance from the front of the engine (about) and to where the shifter sticks up on the tranny. f20c may be going into a car that it doesnt belong in so im getting a idea where the engine will sit and if the stock shifter location will work. thanks -Alex

My brothers s2000 do have the same problem but he hasnt taking it to honda yet. He did research about this and alot of people have the problems with there S as well. Could this be another defect on the S? maybe.
I would not do this yourself. It involves pressing out bearings and pressing in new ones. Unless you've done this before, have access to a press with proper tools, or a friend that can do it for you so you can watch and learn, just take the car to a shop that deals with this sort of thing. It doesn't take a PHD to replace bearings but you need to do research before you go to ensure you don't get the shaft. You can order the parts online at any honda online parts distributer and labor will be dependent on the shop.
Thanks for the advice ya'll. Looks like I'm gonna have to wait until I'm rich and have my own shop to do this one. I was aware of the press issues. Unfortunately, purchasing all the special equipment to use w/the press is not cost effective. For now I will find good places online to get the parts and a good shop to perform the work.
