anyone ever open up jdm headlights?
i have a set up jdm headlights and there are condensation stains on the INSIDE of the glass. has anyone ever opened up their jdm headlights to clean the inside? there was a user here who told me how to do it, but i can't ask him details because he is now banned.
anyway, he basically told me to put my headlights in the oven at 400 and within ten minutes, i could take them apart like butter. however, there seems to be metal clips so i just don't know. can ANYONE help me out? i know a lot of people get condensation stains so someone has to have had the ***** to open these headlights up.

I'll second that request... I would assume that the process is much like the USDM issue headlights... involving an oven, and a lot of patience, but I do not have the testicular fortitude to actually attempt it. I have an extra set of JDM lights laying around so maybe I venture into the womans workshop (Kitchen) and give it a go. Stay tuned!
I used to have a link to the how-to, though I never had the ***** to try it myself. The possibility of ruining a $400-500 thing just to make it prettier...ugh.

exactly. supposedly, right out of the oven, the headlights come apart like butter, but i'm VERY skeptical.

i dont know myself if jdm headlights outer lense is glass, but if it is, heres what you do:
1. Heat your oven to 400 F, once up to temp shut oven off
2. Take metal clips off along with anything else easily removable
3. Take each headlight and place it on a cookie sheet, put in oven
4. Wait ten minutes, then remove.
5. Very carefully pry the glass lense away from the plastic frame, watch for the glue, it gets everywhere and is hard to get off
Putting them togather is just a repeat of removal minus the clips till your done

that's roughly the same advice that i have gotten. at this point, i don't have a choice so i will do a detailed writeup.
btw, did you use silicone to reseal?

i had to resort to the heat gun because my oven was too small.
i gave up with the heat gun because it was taking way too long.

David, When I did my civic lights it took about 15 mins at 200 degrees. I wouldn't suggest 400. When I was ready to put them back together I heated them up in the oven and pressed the lens with the housing together making use of the factory seal or glue. I then used some clear silicone and put a thin bead around the lights, where they meet the housing,. let dry and removed any excess silicone to make it look nice. My headlights had stains and when it rained they would fog, It's been almost 2 years and they are as good as new. Good luck and don't burn your hands!!!

Yes, thats why j00 hear the "pshhhhh" sound when j00 replace the bulbs...and also why j00 have to use a vacuum cleaner to suck air out right before putting new bulb in...
...not too many ppl know that though...

Ha ha, to bad I already knew that. Helms manual owns Joo...
400 seems a little high for me though. You might as well try a lower temp first! as if you try the high temp and it is too high, you may not get a second chance.
You may want to reference this thread, not exactly what you are talking about but same process (taking the light apart).
