hate to thread jack, but im in the same boat. i dont really want to do a swap but would like to run 15's daily. of course without a turbo or anything
i know my tranny is killing me (stock DX)
1.) is a mini me swap worth it?
2.) what would i/h/e put me at?
3.) worth buying a EX tranny?
hopefully i wont get flamed for the jack. either way you learn something too

p29 pistons, port the head, nice intake mani and header, and BIG cam. Tune it and get 125-140 whp, go with a VTEC head and run an even bigger profile like the Crower 3 and hit 160+ whp, way into b18c5 territory.

what motor do you have? d16y7 i assume-
Def get the ex trans.
i/h/e and y8 intake manifold (dumping the stock y7 manifold is a MUST) depending on the make(s) of the parts, would put you at probably around 102-105 atw, not bad considering that the y7 puts down about 90 whp is stock form. If you got really crazy with the header and ran a nice bisi or ragedzine-type piece, you might get closer to 108-110 atw.
mini-me with a y8 head is a nice starting point for a budget attempt at pepping up the y7.

Our A6 made 122whp and 112wtq on a mustang dyno with this setup(He made closer to 130whp on a dynojet)
Bone stock unmolested stock 100,000+mile bottom end
Head milled .030, valve job, match ported, along with match ported intake manifold
SMSP header with a 2.5" exhaust dumped under back seat
ATS 4.7 final drive in a stock SI tranny
AEM short ram intake
fuel regulator
The engine made power until the revlimit.
This engine was ran in SCCA, Comma, and Honda Challenge and it had to adhere to the rule book, so this engine was close to stock do to strict class rules.
About 2 months back in MidOhio the rod bolts let loose and the bottom end was destroyed. We are currently rebuilding this engine and are expecting to gain a few more ponies.
