Default OBX - Tempting. . . New Style Turbo Manifolds (resemble full race)

Browsing ebay for potential turbo parts for my kit I stumbled on to this. . . I still need a manifold, and have decided to go with either full race, or one of the shitbird ones from homemadeturbo.com

Here's a pic. . . They look FANTASTIC - but can we expect these mani's to break like the first gen ones?

I'm tempted. . . I wish they had been out for a year already so that I could read reviews on them. I know their other ones are garbage, but these look so damn nice.

It's only $400. . . compared to like $600 for the closest competitor - While I'm not trying to cheap out on this setup, I'm not a baller that can just shrug off $200 either, but I will if I feel like the damn thing is going to break on me. Then I'd be out $400 and still need a new manifold.

dont get it bro. until they show dyno proven test on alot of there ****, and do alot of test on there products, stay far away.

just stick with something that you know is going to work when you use it, so you can have that peice of mind. 600 on a namebrand is cheaper then 400 for the 0bx, plus another 600 to get you the the mani. you SHOULD of gotten. thats 1000 bucks man.

save you the hassle

I just got rid of a manifold that was very similar - looking to upgrade with a tubular full race/shitbird style mani. . .

yea but that's their old mani, we all know those are junk. OBX is starting to look promising. The LSD has been working great for someone pushing 700+ hp, their turbo kit is basically greddy I heard, same w/the intercooler. So who knows, maybe they're improving.

The mani in that thread is not OBX according to some posts near the end, but I get your point - I've seen horror story pics from OBX mani's.

I was hoping maybe someone else had tried this particular model. The old ones were a lot thinner than this new style. . . here's a pic

I'm guessing it would be too good to be true - wishful thinking I guess

also make sure theres the wastegate flange above all four tubes, this will help you better. i was reading that on some kits, they offer shitty placement of the wastegate. and the best kind (forgot what brand/turbo kit) had the flange right over the intersection of all four pipes..

can someone clarify

The wastegate placement on this OBX is at the collector - a very good place for it

My friends are trying to get me to buy this mani too, instead of Full-Race. It supposedly has a lifetime warranty, and is made or 321 stainless steel. I still wouldn't trust it though. Still seems like a ricer brand to me. I still haven't even seen any dyno tests or anything on it.

honestly, you say the next closest competitor is 200 bux more. that's a small price to pay to prevent future griefs. just do it right the first time bro, and you'll be all good.

don't do it. my friend had one and not only did it get cracks, but they're also not equal-length runners. they look like they are, but when you get a better look you can tell how far off they each are from one another.

Ahhhh, I was wondering if they were actually "equal" - How long ago did you friend buy his LSvtec? I have only seen them for sale for about a month.

The only reason I asked about this manifold - knowing OBX's track record is because in this industry - things can change drastically in a season.

Take AEM for example - I'm not knocking AEM in any way shape or form, but do you remember when AEM could do no wrong, when all of their products were "the best". They were on top of the industry -

Now AEM has several parts that I wouldn't trust on my car. Sure they still have some top notch products, but wtf is up with their cam gears? Who's brilliant idea was it to come out with a 3 bolt design cam gear knowing full well that the people buying an adjustable cam gear were going to be taking their cars to levels that far exceed oem requirements.

I just have to keep tabs on things - you never know, one day OBX just might emerge as the new performance giant in this industry.

They have shown signs of improvement in the last couple years, and their prices are unbeatable. If they can bring their **** up to at least par - they will probably take a large portion of the industry's market share - and that's no joke.

i was at a racespot last night and i talked to a guy with a fairly new OBX FMIC, he told me he couldnt happier and he loves it...

not that this has anything to do with the mani- just a simple vouch for the company i guess..

Yeah - I saw their new style intercoolers too. . . the only problem I have with them is they have poor inlet/outlet placement like so many other IC manufacturers - the inlets/outlets at the bottom don't allow the IC to operate at full efficiency.

So I've noticed - It's really pissing me off too. I have been looking for a suitable IC for a while - in the mean time trying to avoid overpriced products, and debating with myself weather or not a tube fin, or bar plate is better for 25 PSI or more.
