I am pretty sure what I believed to be a blown headgasket was a severly retarded engine.

I put marking on my cam gear and belt a long time ago to make sure I put the cam gear back on correct, And the markings were way off when I checked them the other day.

Tonight I am going to get the timing all set correctly. What other damage could have been caused?

 

So what happened?

I could mark my timing belt and my cam and spin and spin and spin and the marks wont line up. Maybe its because my car is retard a couple degrees but i know my timing is on though.

With it being an interference-type motor, that's what my initial thoughts are too.

the crank gear isnt the same size as the cam gear(s). so im pretty sure the belt dosent turn at the same rate every time.

go by the marks on the gears and the crank gear, not a mark on the belt.

 

yeah those marks won't line up again after the motor has been cranked around. set the cam timing by having the crank at tdc and the cam "up". don't go by some stupid marks on the belt.
