GSR motor with LS tranny , how bad?
in the process of having a gsr motor swapped into my 95 LS , cant seem to locate a b16 tranny right now ... so im just curious if anyone else out there has the same setup and how it performs , or compares .... the GSR motor im using will be tuned and have decent power ... just wondering how much it will be going to waste since im still using my long gear ratio'd tranny ...
any reliable places to buy just a used b16 tranny? etc... vendors?

not sure if you can check the class forums while you're in the trial stage, but i wouldnt invest any money into that engine (tuning, etc, etc) until you get that tranny. the car wont perform like its supposed to even with or without vtec kicked in.
but if you can, check the class forums. best deals in town. also check places where they sell engines (online) and they carry alot of tranny's too. might be pricy tho.
good luck

I've got a 93 LS tranny on my 92'GSR (buying the LS was a cheaper 'quick' fix to rebuilding my GSR tranny) and it's not too bad....The primary problem is not tuning because if anything with the taller gears you get a better feel for what your motor is doing because it's power is stretched out a little further, but if you can't rev over 9000K or have something to drop your VTEC engagement point you won't be able to maintain VTEC in between gears (primarily 1st to 2nd and 2nd to third). I've got a built NA motor and chipped ecu so my rev limit is high enough to keep it engaged...Just about everyone on here will disagree, but I like the tall gears, though they don't offer the same torque multiplication as a B16 tranny it's nice to not have the wheelspin and constant shifting...Primarily though reaching higher speeds in lower gears has several times proven to be advantageous against shorter geard trannies, when they run out of steam in their low gears and have to shift, you keep accelerating with less shifting reaching much higher speeds per gear. DON'T GET ME WRONG THOUGH I MISS THE HELL OUT OF MY GSR TRANNY, AND AS SOON AS I CAN AFFORD TO SEND IT TO GEARSPEED IT WILL GO BACK ON!
