Default Replaced my stolen ITR with.....

Last night I picked up my Black 2002 FORD (insert flame suit) SVT Lightning. This truck is amazing. After I test drove it I fell in love. Driving the ITR is a much different feeling than having 450# of torque kicking you in the *** at 3000rpm's. The Lightning has power at all speeds and rides like a car. I am very impressed with it so far, but I know that I will never be able to replace my ITR.

On the bright side, mods are much cheaper for the Lightning and there is much more room inside, than in the ITR. I am a big guy, so the ITR very fit me quiet right. I think I will keep my Lightning stock for now, but it's nice to know that for 1000$ in mods I have a 12 second truck

I don't know how to post pics, but if anyone wants to post them for me I can email them the pics. Because this thread sucks without pics

If anyone is curious about Lightnings in general I can answer any questions to the best of my knowledge.

Thanks for all the good times fellas. I will be around just as much as when I had my ITR.

These trucks are nice. If I was ever caught dead owning a truck, I'm sure it would be one of these. Sorry about the R, Congrats on the purchase.

I never thought I would own a truck. But I am glad I proved myself wrong.

Gas mileage sucks ***, but it's part of the game. My L will get around 12-17mpg, depending on how much I want to hear the blower.

Marsh-

Last I check they were going to Auction it off. Whoever buys that will get a nice suprise when/if they crack the head and see a full Jun setup. Not to mention the brand new Toda Clutch/flywheel. If I had the money I would buy it back.

I'll email the pics Marsh. Or jump on AIM.

Likewise. But the real dissapointment about those trucks is that they don't offer a manual transmission! (right?) They would be twice as much to drive if they were manual.

I hate passing these trucks on the freeway. I know i'm going to get owned by them so I try to avoid all eye contact with the owner lol.

Sorry to hear about the R Wanye!

It feels strange going into the domestic world, knowing I have been a diehard Honda fan since before I could even drive. I am one of the few guys who can claim they have been there from the start of the import scene. Every car I have ever owned has been a Honda or Acura, so getting a Ford was something I never really planned on. But after my ITR was stolen I told myself I could not go through this again, and I wanted my next car to have a V8 in it. Nothing right now in the import scene really grabs my attention, other than the STI/EVO, but I dont want to spend that kind of money(yet). So to make a long story short the Lightning was the perfect choice for me.

Ford never offered the Lightning with anything other than a automatic. The truck in stock form is rated at a 13.7-13.9 quarter mile. Like ITR's most are faster in real life, than what magazine's can get out of them. My lightning is very comfy to cruise in, and gets it on when you want it to. The truck from a dig would own my ITR, but on a freeway run I don't know if it could hang with my old ITR. It was a beast from a roll.

It seems like mods are a lot different for domestics than imports. Domestic mods are a lot cheaper for one, but I do not see the same build quality. If you compared a Mugen header or Toda header to a set of high end domestic headers, there would be no comparison in fit and finish. The import is step up in quality for sure. The domestics do seem to have a far better tuning system for ECU's. They are far cheaper and seem to be more advanced and easier to work with.

Pics to come later today. I know I will miss my ITR. But I know I will have fun owning my Lightning.

-EDIT

My truck wieghts 5000lbs and you can feel every pound of it It's not as nimble as my ITR as you can imagine.

Damn Ford Lightning's are awesome They are one of those cars that you hate but would love to own. I only hate it because they can whoop my *** without even trying. But if I was ever in need of a truck, this would be it. Good choice on the replacement and I hope you have better luck with this one than you did with the itr.

Lightnings haul some serious ***! I myself have been immersed in the domestic scene of late. If you want to learn more about the L's, you should check out http://www.svtperformance.com . It's amazing how mod- friendly these cars are... simple bolt-ons will yield more gains on these s/c V8's than the B18C5 could ever hope for with the same set up. Unfortunately, you will miss the feel/handling of the ITR... but all that will be forgotten when you hear the supercharger whine and feel the rush of brute torque.

Well put. I agree that the Lightning, cobra, and any forced induction car is way more mod friendly than the ITR. That was one of my biggest gripes with Honda's in general, that you have to spend a mint and you only get a pinch of power in return. Just enough to hook you into buying another mod But you are right again, that you will not have that light weight, tossable feeling with the Lightning.

Congrats on the Lightning! I've kicked around the idea of buying one myself for a long time but the closest I got to it was an F-250 power stroke. It is difficult to really compare the R vs. Lightning because they each have so many pros in different areas. The truck will of course never handle even remotely close to the R (or ever be within about 12 miles to the gallon less than the R), but the R could never run low 12 second times and be as reliable as it was the day it came off the dealership lot either. As far as the quality of aftermarket parts for the Lightning, I'll agree with you somewhat that you don't quite see the same craftsmanship in some higher end parts like you tend to see with import aftermarket parts, but that is not to say the quality isn't there. For example, Banks makes various turbo upgrades for my Power Stroke that can put it somewhere in the vicinity of 800hp, 850 tq/lbs and still be very reliable. I don't know if you have your own place or not, but if you have to do any home improvements where you need a few 2x4s and a few sheets of drywall, you won't miss the R for a second .
