04 RSX A-Spec Type S OR 05 RSX Type S
If you wanted to buy an rsx which would u buy:
1. 2004 RSX A-Spec Type S price tag: $25,500
(i believe A-Spec package includes the front and rear lips , side skirts , 17" wheels, and better suspension , lowered and stiffer shocks or something)
2. 2005 RSX Type S price tag: $24,200
also does that 10hp difference matter much?

what are you looking to use the car for?
any track schools or autocross?
if so i would go for the 05'
revised suspension settings...
4.77 final drive, rear swaybar increase,+10 hp(and parts that gave it the 10 hp)
i.e revised intake manifold, exhaust
if you are not interested in the track schools or autocross go for the 04 a-spec package. i think it looks better than the 05 package

Where are you located? Wouldn't happen to be in Rochester NY would ya?
About what you're asking though...the 05 should be faster than the 04 as a result of the cam, intake manifold and final drive. The A Spec does show some performance gains over a regular 04 but it's basically cos it has Yokohama ES100s on it.
I'd take the 04 because you should be able to bring them further down on the price than $25k. The car's been on the lot for a year probably, it didn't even sell when it was an upgrade of the current car...now there are 05s with more power. I garuntee the dealership wants that car off the lot.

I've heard nothing but the greatest reviews of the '05 Z1 motor in the USDM Type S and the other little changes made for 2005.
I'd honestly go for the '05 because it looks like Honda <u>really</u> listened to the observations of people who'd gone to the track w/the Type S and made changes based on their complaints.
A McPherson strut front driver is never going to be perfect, but they clearly made changes designed to make it the best front driver McPherson car they could.
And the 10 HP difference in the motor is deceiving. Changes to the cams, the computer and the axle ratio make it a much nicer car to drive than the previous Type S.

No, Torrance isn't paying me. LOL.... I can really see that they listened and made changes based on the observations of serious Honda aficionados.

05 Type S is what I'd go for. I love our 02, but the 05 seems like a very nice platform, teh Z1 seems to have gotton very good reviews, as well as the suspesnion changes. GL
im with the old man on this one, all of the prior problems with the transmission, and even the intake resonance have all been updated and fixed for the new 2005 model, and it even looks a little sharper with the minor improvements they've made, now if only they could run a set of type-R taillights onto the type-S, perfect.
no brainer...2005 type-s
the 2005 type-s is a much better car than 02-04. the only thing i don't like is the black plastic strip on the rear bumper. the 210 hp is underated and the car has much more torque down low and in midrange. it has a better engine, transmission, gearing. steering is quicker, stiffened chassis, better suspenison, brakes, wheels. interior noise levels are less, with better seats and interior styling. it also looks sleeker and more aggressive.

I think i will, in fact, im gonna go get one next week, black on black, type-S with the stock foggies as the only extra thing i want...im already in the process of working out what rims i want, and im debating on the suspension setup, any suggestions? i might go the nine yards and do a coilover system setup, but not sure, what you guys think?

Well, Hondata doesn't work on the 05's yet. I'm sure in time they'll figure it out tho. They got an 02-04 ECU with a custom harness working with it but a lot of stuff didn't work like parts of the gauges I believe.
I would get the '04 A-spec....
The suspension is really superior. Many non A-spec people have bought the A-spec suspension for their car and general consensus is that is how the Type-S should have came out of the box. I've driven an A-spec quite a bit and it is by far the best-handling FWD I've ever piloted, especially stock for stock. I've also driven a stock Type-S and while it handled nicely, there was no doubt that the A-spec had the edge.
Everyone says "oh you'll upgrade and get rid of the stuff anyway"......why? Not only does it NOT void your warrenty, it techincally *is* aftermarket, performance-enhanced suspension. I love the stance of the A-spec with the 17"s and driving it just further proves the point.
$5k package from the dealer, blah blah... by the time you add it to your financing and and note that it won't screw you out of warrenty components, how can anyone say it's a waste of money? Besides, like already mentioned, dealers are going to want to be getting '04s off the lot, so you may as well take advantage. I'd have been all over an '04 if I could have afforded it right now and would have hunted down an A-spec for sure.
I also like the looks of the '02-'04 cars better than the '05, but that's just personal preference.
I think you can see what my vote is.
