Coming to a crossroad in life....what the hell is wrong with me?!
I never thought I'd have to make this choice. I'm thinking about selling my R. I've only owned it since the end of June, and previously drove a GSR for 2 years. I love the car...it's the car I've always wanted. Here are my reasons for wanting to part with this car: I have a 2-year old daughter, I just moved to NY where it snows a lot, I'm tired of being scared to let the car out of my sight for fear of it being vandalized/stolen. Not to mention the "issues" my R has right now that I'm tired of dealing with. Enter my predicament. Having had the opportunity to experience the ITR and the raw thrill of driving it, I feel like I'd be letting myself down (or simply unsatisfied) to get rid of the R for any less of an automobile.
I've been talking to the Subaru dealership about a 2004 Impreza WRX STi they still have in stock. This is the only car I could see filling the void my ITR would leave behind, not to mention fitting my lifestyle (child, snow, etc.). I can get this thing for a damn good price. It's Wr Blue Pearl with silver wheels, the security system upgrade, and the boost guage. No radio. I feel like the opportunity to buy this car couldn't have come at a better time, but everytime I jump behind the wheel of my R I'm grinning from ear to ear.
I know this topic is sort of "cliche", but I know others in this forum have gone through this same situation and I was hoping to get some good feedback from you guys. Although I'm sure I'll get mostly biased opinions since this is an ITR forum, but try to put yourself in my position.
Here's a current pic of my 2001 ITR w/ 87k miles:

Here is the potential replacement:

So with that being said, anyone who may be interesting in buying my car shoot me a PM, or AIM, and we can chat.

how much are you getting the STi for?
And what do you think a fair price for you R is?
(wondering, because *gasp* I've been kinda thinking about selling my R too...)

I say go for it. The Type R is a very very nice car but I would be scared parking it in a mall movies anywhere im not near it. So I say go for it. WRX STI = Saftey , four door , roomy and then the four wheel driver, turbo , 2.5 liter, hid's and so on. I say go for it.
Maybe getting a 4wd beater such as a blazzer or exploder would be better and cheaper?
Ins could be better for the R is its the second car.
they have the room and 4wd for the family and weather.
Ya know if you sell the R your going to be unhappy regardless of what you buy to replace it with.
either way tons of luck with what ever you decide.

I like Bbasso's idea! Pick yourself up a 4-wheel drive beater thats comfortable for you and your daughter.

forget the STI, get an EVO
or you could just keep the Type R and buy a beater with more room. But the STI is a nice car also, can't really go wrong eithe way.

I would love to know what you end up getting for the ITR... I'm sick of the attention and am that much closer to getting rid of the R myself... (though I might regret it later)
I think getting and Sti would be the right decision for you given the circumstances.

GAthering from the information you wrote, I was in the same predicament. I testdrove many cars that i thought can be an equal replacement. I came to the conclusion, instead of replacing the car why not buy a 2nd car to beat around with and use the Honda to fullfill my weekly dose of fun.
I do not know your financial situation but that's what I have done. I had a friend that went from driving a regular gsr to a wrx. He sold the wrx few months later. Now he's contimplating on buying another honda but theft is still a main issue since his integra was stolen.
Driving my 2nd car a mazda miata(which is fun too), I gain to love my Integra even more. There's nothing like a honda at high rps! Nothing! even if it's not that fast

power wisze it is a decent replacement, but not as fun as you think
also they suck in the snow, so plan on getting some really good snow tires. possibly even diff wheels for those snow tires.

I love the STi, practical, fast, AWD and decent on gas but very expensive. I don't know if I could give up my R for one just yet but it's the only other car I would even consider. I say go for it. The AWD, 4 doors and turbo is the attraction for me.
Good input guys, thanks. The only problem I have with getting a 3rd car is that I don't have a 3-car garage. The TL and the R will definitely be garaged. I really don't want to climb into a beater that's been sitting in -17 degree weather all night and then drive it to work.
If only the gf would learn to drive a 6-speed manual, I'd trade the TL in for the STi.

After driving an S2000 at gingerman saturday, I realized I don't have to have an R to have a competent and FUN track car that is affordable. Of course I knew this before but the 'fun factor' with my ITR always blinded me. After my 'dukes of hazard' incident in my car, I began to lose interest as I totally freaked myself out, and havent' really been able to push fully on track without finding myself very worrisome. (i'm sure that'll go away the more im on track)
Whatever you chose, don't let these fools who tell you that the ITR is the best, most awesome car available. There are plenty of other cars that are as fun, as affordable, and as economical (gas mileage, storage space), and that even have lower insurance rates and MUCH lower theft rates. Yes, its a great car, but thats just what it is - a car. It shouldn't determine who your friends are or make you who you are. Too bad that seems to be the case for some R owners (not all, not a majority, btw) There are other considerations as we get older, not just having a sleek little fun track car. Although I find myself wanting to get a SMALLER and sleeker car (And a daily car), lol.
A lot of help I am, right?
Best of luck with your decision. Only drawback (for me) with a car like that is gas mileage. Fun = pressing gas = horrid gas mileage in a turbo.

What the hell? Do you know what you're saying? You could be Excommunicated for talking like this.
Scott, who had to calm his ITR down when it heard about this....it was VERY upset!

I bought the TL for my gf and our daughter....and yes, another possible option could be to trade it in for an SUV of some sort. But the real dilemma is whether I want my R or an STi. I reeeeally like STi's and I reeeeally like ITR's. I'm just kinda leaving the TL out of it.
