Default 04 RSX-s Gas Millege

I only get about 225 miles for a tank of gas on my 04 RSX-s. This car has no mod and only have about 1400 miles on it. Is it normal or should I take it to the dealer and have it looked at?

Thank You

more you drive the car, the better the gas mileage becomes. or that's what has happened with my cars.

My gas mileage got better as the car became more broken in. Btw, when you do fill the tank, how many gallons do you end up putting in?

its on how you drive the car as well dont forget if your running people on the streets or driving at like high rpms all the time than that will waste gas as well drive at about 4k than shift just for nomal driving

That sounds odd to me. My 04 Type S gets 30+mpg consistently, and that's with me driving up and down a 1500 foot mtn to work and back every day. If I do a long road trip it'll get around 34mph. If I drive it hard all week, ripping up and down windy roads in vtek, I still get 28-30mph. On average I get about 330-340 miles before the fuel light comes on.

My 04 has about 6500 miles on it now, and no mods. Having a car that performs this well and still gets decent mpg is great.

Of course it's highly dependent on how you drive, and I guess if you live at altitiude it probably makes a difference too.

In all city driving (rough roads, steep hills and stoplights) I average around 220 per tank ~20MPG. This is a 03 Type-S w/ 20K miles.

Seems normal.

All highway, 30MPG

So your gas millege is about the same as mine. But isn't it suppose to be better than this? I don't drive it hard. I normally shift at 4k. Most people get better gas millege on their RSX. It seems to bother me.

The EPA mileage estimate is 24/31 for the RSX.

On my commute, I rarely hold speed for more than 2 minutes at a time, and in some areas have to stop every 5 blocks. With all that braking and the occasional VTEC sprint mixed in, the mileage is going to be lousy.

I've tried driving under 3K rpm for a few weeks to see if my mileage improved. No noticable difference.

However, throw in some suburban driving or time on the freeway and the mileage shoots up to the mid 20s.

Must be how/where you guys have to drive. Imagine what your mileage would be if you were driving an SUV or something.

I've got 220miles on a tank right now, and the fuel gauge is just over half. Most of my driving is 5th gear cruising up and down a big hill every day, about 50 miles roundtrip. I keep it around 3-4 grand most of the time, and whip it up to 7-8 grand probably two or three times a day.

i have an 02 type-s with intake and full catback exhaust and i use to get around 230-250 miles per tank. i decided to try mobil 1 full synthetic on my next oil change and i saw a really big difference. now i'm getting anywhere from 250-280 miles per tank before my gas light goes on (once i even got it to 300 miles before i filled up). i guess its the way you drive and where you drive daily.

****, on my moms 96 camry, with 140k miles on that ****, lol, all highway miles, she's gotten 435 out of the car, i cant believe it but its true...it depends on your driving habits, if your accelerating like the car is a formula 1 race car then yea, dont expect good mileage, you have to accelerate at a normal pace and not downshift at high RPM's, **** like that, every little thing matters, check your tire pressure, that can play a role in it, check the air filter, all that stuff...

I think throttle position will have a larger effect than the engine speed. At least that's what I learned from experience.

maybe its the downhill portion of your trip that is saving you gas?

I saw a lil diff. in using moble 1 like 2 mpg better. The biggest difference is use 92 octane. If you go from 92 to 93 you'll see a WORLD of difference. I try to fill up with 93. Also, when you top it off, you should try to squeeze about anther gallon if it'll fit. Helps out. I've gotten about 300-320 a tank with 50/50 city/hitghway driving. Hell, I even drive at 85 on the highway and still get 300 a tank. BTW, I have 2 12" subs in the back. Shift between 3 and 4 and you're golden

well check this out. it's all about how you drive. if you drive 70 miles a day when you drive don't just mash the pedal down. if you are a smooth driver you can get much more miles out of you tank. I've done this before and I've gotten 330 to the tank. I'm usually getting about 270 because I punch it alot.

i have just over 9k on my '04 type-s and i can count on one hand the number of tanks where i got less than 30mpg. last tank was about 32. mine usually goes down when traffic has been shitty going to/from work - my commute is 74 miles round-trip, about 2/3 of it is on the highway. once in a while i push it, if i'm in the mood for more "spirited" driving, but usually i just shift around 3k and the mileage is all good

see, thats what i need to hear, thats the only thing i wasnt sure about. My commute i think is nearly identical to yours, and well, shifting at 3000, if thats what will get me the most optimal fuel consumption then i'm all about that...perfect.

Yeah, when say getting on the highway, don't shift over 4k. in the city shift at no more than 3.5k. if you're cruising through the streets you can put the car in to 5th and run @2.5k. You wont have much go but the gas mileage will be there, trust me.
