Default are all b16 loud at 3100 rpms

one of my only complaints with my b16a1 is how loud it is around 3100 rpms(~2800-3200)! this is right were it is at 60mph (Y1 tranny) and i drive 60mph most of the time. need less to say it gets annoying and hard on the ears. i was just wondering if this was normal or if something is wrong with my engine.

Whats your exhaust setup?
What mounts do you have?
Do you have an aftermarket intake?
Is your sound-deadening material stripped off?

I know that my CRX is louder at certain RPMs, but I think thats because of the stiff AZRace mounts and it just transfers a lot of vibration into the cabin. I put a stock airbox back on and it quieted it down a bit.

Anyways, all of those things can contribute to it.

i know that with my B18 the vibration of the hasport mounts and engine sounds like bass. actually i cant even see out of my mirrors at certain RPM's and i have a cold air intake so it is really noisy. but i love every second of it.

Haha, yeah. Same here. I actually never noticed how bad the vibration was until I rode in my friends DA teg w/ stock mounts. I was like "wow, this is really quiet and smooth for an ls-vtec"

But when that pedal hits the floor, it makes it worth every minute that I have to sit at a red light listening to that hum/vibration.

...blown peice of the exhaust system. Sometimes something broken in the exhaust causes odd resonating sound that may not be the familiar "rattle." That may cause the low frequence noise you hear.

This may sound silly but get a good sized wrench and when the car is making that low frequency at 800RPMs... tap on the different parts of the exhaust with the wrench. You may be able to cause a cancellation frequency and you may be able to locate the problem.

If you have a big fart can on the end of your pipe and it was ebay'd, or something, those aren't tested for bad resonating frequencies. That's why when you hear a cheap "universal $90" muffler accelerate you get the low WAHHHHH then it dies out around 2.5-4... and then a rattling roar at the top. A good exhaust will have a solid bandwidth through the muffler because they're tested to do so.

so most likely somethink is wrong with my exhaust system? the only thing that original is the b16 header. i had new piping, resonator and muffler put on after swap (4 months ago). i notice aroung the header gasket on block that it look like something wet is seeping out, could this be the problem or is it more likely to be more under the car? any ideas?

could just be the frequency of those rpms happen to vibrate the metal and chassis and etc. to the point where it seems really loud to your ears.Sounds kinda scientific but could be very true.........

You drive 60??? most of the time???? City Streets are 35-50. highway is 65+. heres an idea. bump up ur speed a little bit. Dont hover around 60 if it anoys you so much. I had to drive my brothers integra once, on the highway, DEFNENTLY not a fun or Cruising ride. All the way from Miami. WOO! but what I do like, I dont have to down shift.

country roads are 55. when driving 55-60 is when its loud. if i drive like 63 then its queit but then you are more than 5 mph over the speed limit and that when you get pulled over, and i can't get any tickets. well i don't think i can get a much quieter exhaust so i guess i need to check for a leak or get another resonator, and i don't know that another resonator will do anything.
