Default help with dealer (mods)

So I am going to the dealer in a couple days because my SRS light is on. I was wondering, should I maybe feel them out about modifying my car, because I bought an extended warranty on the car but I now plan to mod it (mainly an icebox, exhaust, maybe some coilovers and a shifter). I don't want to run into any problems if I do these since that would be money wasted on an extended warranty... any advice?

I would check how the extended one reads. The factory one they can not deny work because of a mod unless it caused the dammage. For after after market extended one I am not sure how the read with that.

I took my ep3 to the Honda dealer and they didn't say anything. They asked me if it was lowered and once I said it was, they brought in the lightest mechanic to drive my car to change my oil, since it was difficult to get over the ramp.

So how did it go?
Was it just a sensor that went wrong?
My SRS light came on for no reason as well, but they'll take a look at it next week.

Anyways, my question is, I'm having mods installed coming weekend, but my SRS light checkup is the tuesday after. Should I wait until they check my light? Because knowing how dealers are I don't want them blaming my mods or my install guys.

They cant deny warranty work on the SRS, because you have coilovers on the car. However, it would be forseeable that they could deny a claim on cv joint, with coilovers. You get the idea, unless the mod has some bearing on the issue they shouldnt make a big deal out of it.

oh yea, do u have an interior neons or any electrical mods inside? that maybe the cause of the problem and if they find out, they'll charge you for the reset labor and the diagnostic like $90.

I've never even had the dealership ask about the CAI, or exhaust so I wouldn't worry about it.....

i brought my LEASED car to the dealership with a few mods and they dont really say anything. It doesnt really matter to them im sure, because either way you will just end up paying them one way or another. Their job is just to sell cars and make money for it. If you have the SRS light on, there are shops that can turn it off for you. Around OC i know that Autowave has the correct tools to get that done and it has got to be cheaper than going through the dealership.

I have 2 9" tubes sitting under my seat, but they're plugged into the 12V, so i don't think that would cause the SRS light to turn on rite?

dragonone, yup that'd be the cause. remove em before u go to the dealer that'll give em no excuse to charge you. when you get them to diagnose it, if it's a code "sensor failure" then it's because of the tubes. just gotta be aware that neons cause these problems

i believe it only matters to some dealerships. the dealership i go to sells mods, they even perform the hondata reflash there. so yea i think its gonna depend on the dealer if they act like **** faces or not.

You guys have way cooler dealerships out west than we do here... There are laws here against even having mod-shops or whatever you want to call them... If you're not there to get your oil-lubed or do anything out of the ordinary... everything grinds to a halt, even if you're just trying to get a part, those guys are the suck.

So the pertinent question is... where do you live? Live in an uptight area where nobody does **** to cars except oil changes and new tires? Or you live in a place where alot of people do stuff to cars... where it's the norm, it'll be more acceptable... where you stand out, you're gonna get hassled.

Some dealers are better than others when it comes to mods..

Keep in mind; if it comes to them dishing out a lot of money for your repair, they will probably try to blame mods if they can find a way..
