Does the VAFC use the map signal other than....
Yep, it makes the ECU think the car is getting more/less air and thus the ECU adds/subracts fuel.
This is the reason why if you add too much fuel with an AFC it will throw a code, because the voltage will go to high on the MAP sensor (kinda like seeing boost)

ahhhhh. Thanks. I had a feeling that the VAFC tricked the ecu this way. The helms manual has two possible senarios when a CEL 3 is triggered. Too much voltage and not enough voltage via the map sensor.
thanks
thanks
Sorry if it looks like I'm hounding your posts on this topic, I don't mean to. When my v-afc was causing my CEL #3, the voltages (per Helms) all checked out ok. Remember that when you check the MAP voltages with Helms, the car is not running and the v-afc won't be modifying the MAP signal. The procedures in Helms won't diagnose a bad v-afc. Good luck.
Thanks for the heads up. I'll try and lower the fuel maps and see what happens. I'm hoping this is will "cure" my proble. I've had the vafc for only about a month so if I need to I'll send it back.

Even setting my v-afc at "zero's" for the fuel mapping functions didn't cure my CEL's. I had to take the v-afc off my MAP signal wire altogether. Weird.
At full throttle, on occasion, I'll get a CEL 3 at about 5500-6000. Car goes into limp mode and I start looking for places to pull over to reset the ECU and it goes away until next time. Fuel settings are about +8% at vtec crossover(4700) and drops to 3%-4% up to redline. I have an OBDII ecu and that thing can be very sensitive to alterations in timing, fuel, ect......
You guys REALLY SHOULDNT be richening with an AFC......
Do it the RIGHT way and used an FPR to add fuel and use the AFC to lean where
you need to.
