Rear brake pads
I'm getting ready to change the rear brake pads for a 2001 Honda Accord EX and need to know a few things. Since the emergency brake is attached to the rear brakes do the cylinders push back or do they screw back to make room for the new pads? If they screw, which direction do I screw them to make them retract? Is there any other precautions that I need to be aware of?
Thanks

you'll need to twist the rear pistons clockwise until it bottoms out. then slightly rotate counterclockwise (back out) until one of the grooves lines up with the tab on the back of the inner brake pad.
no special precautions... just your standard pad replacement stuff, like the use of anti-squeal or high-temperature grease.

you can get them from any parts store, or wherever you get the pads from. personally, i put it between the pad and shims, between the shims and retaining clip, and on the outside of the of the retaining clip. probably overkill, but hey... doesn't hurt.
what if I have a set of aftermarket pads, and there is no "tab" for the piston on the caliper to line up with? I dont understand why the rear calipers screw in instead of compress..how do they work?
