Grind into 3rd
Well I just bought my GS-R and it was a one owner(couple.) obviouslly the woman didnt know how to drive(not to make assumptions or anything lol).. but i just replaced the clutch. If you're under 5k(rpm) its really smooth, above that it will barely grind into third. i can avoid high rpms, but i'd rather not
. do i need a whole new tranny or what?

3rd gear syncro. It's common. You can either replace the syncros (expensive), replace the tranny (expensive)
First thing I would do is change the MTF with some Honda MTF. That should help, if it is still there then I would drain it out again and use a mix of Honda MTF and GM syncromesh friction modified.

From a GM dealer (Chevrolet, Cadillac, Pontiac, etc.). Beware though, this stuff isn't cheap...my local Chevy dealer quoted me $12.47/quart. btw, the part number for the GM Synchromesh w/ Friction Modified is #12377916.

I put syncromesh in every tranny that had a slight grind and it always worked for me.
