The Search is Over.
Finally. Last night I finally bought a tow vehicle. You autocrossers probably know G.H. Sharp, a multi-time (I believe) national champion currently driving a blue A Stock Boxter. He posted to the THSCC list that he was unloading his 1999 Suburban for cheap, and I jumped on it.
It's certainly a lot more than I need, but the price was so good I couldn't resist. Plus, I look like a pimp in it
Here's the deal...
1999 Chevy Suburban C2500 LT
454 gas V8, towing package, 4:10 Posi rear end / Turbohydramatic 400 trans, etc
Borla exhaust, K&N filter
16x7 Progressive Aluminum wheels
Leather, heated seats, integrated "Homelink" garage door opener, keyless, etc...
So...everybody buy stock in Exxon. I'll be driving this monster to work until sometime next year when I can afford yet another vehicle...
Karl, who says, "heated seats are good."

That's a sucky choice for a tow vehicle. It can't even run 13s in the 1/4 mile!
As I've mentioned before, both of the 'Burbans in my immediate family have had their computers go on the fluff occasionally. A 'reboot' cured them though. How about the whole competition folder pitch in to buy "Money" a set of dubs?
Lightning? Ford? Who'd want to drive a Ford? Certainly nobody I associate with!

Nice purchase Rice. Funny I was just thinking about tow vehicles the other day and was contemplating the feasability of a Buick Grand National for the job.

You know...you're right. But at least it gets bad gas mileage.
Actually had someone emailed me with "I've got this Lightning that's been well kept up, it's in the way of my other trucks, so I'll sell it to you for 7000 under book..." I'd have bought that instead.

Good job! That will be a awesome tow vehical with tons of room for friends & spares.
I was considering a Impala SS until I realized it wasn't rated to tow very much.

The problem with a Lightning tow vehicle is that it's often faster than the car it's towing.
While I think they'd be a cool tow vehicle depending on where you live a 4x4 is probably better. It can double as a boat tow vehicle (some of the ramps around here are mud, 4x4 is about the only way to launch) or ski transportation. Try driving in the snow in a Lightning.
A Suburban is a great choice.

), and Karen (CamaroFS34) somehow manages in her car without snow tires. I just got snow tires for the Lightning, so I think it will do OK as long as that little needle on the boost gauge doesn't dance all over the place.

Aside from my second job as a rap star / drug dealer / pimp, I knew a burb was my ideal tow vehicle. I kind of lucked into this one - many of them were getting tired or were quite pricey.
- You can pack *all* the stuff in one
- They drive nicely for what they are
- You can sleep in it if you want
- You can lock up all your stuff at night
- The fact that this one came with a new 3/36 warranty didn't hurt either.
Well it's white. And the exit of this Borla exhaust is huge. So does anyone know where I can get a red "R" sticker? I'm thinking that a "Suburban Type R" stylized with the Acura font would be mad tizzite yo.
