Quick question about gasket between 4-2-1 header
hey guys quick question. i just looked at my 4-2-1 header and noticed that the gasket isnt aligned correctly in between the 4-2 and the 2-1 part of the 2 piece header (i can see a small side of it sticking out between the crack). will this cause a big problem??
If it is not in the car yet, just take it off and flip the gasket upside down. Sometimes they fit one side and not the other way. As long as you are getting the o-rings clear of the piping you are straight.
the header is already on the car. during the install i think the metal gasket shifted a bit so its not straight on with the downpipe and manifold. would this cause a problem/leak that i should be concerned about? thanks for your help
You will know if it is leaking... it will smoke and get noisy and rattle. If you have not seen any of these symptoms yet just keep an eye open and pray... Or re-torque the bolts if you are not sure. It is more of a hassle than anything, but worth doing to know it is set up right.
Sometimes the thermal expansion of the two pieces will smush your gasket and make it spill outward like that, but usually it will be on a cheap gasket and be rather uniform all the way around.

ok thanks a lot man...i dont hear any rattling or smoking or any noise. when we installed the header i made sure the bolts were on tight. thanks for your help again man
yea when I installed my exhaust on my car a while back a gasket had begun to slip a little bit, my exhaust started to sound real raspy and shitty. You will know when it is time to fix the problem when your exhaust starts making that noise
