Tips on Removing RSX-S Stereo
Hello everyone. I had the unfortunate incident of totalling my Type S about 2 weeks ago, I've bought it back from insurance(engine's still good) and I'm trying to part it out. I'm having the most pain in the *** time trying to get the Bose changer out of it. I've removed two screws from the bottom of the player and it still won't budge for the life of me. Are there any more than those two screws holding the head unit it place?
A friend of mine had the same problem...he was in the same situation as you he had totaled his car. we wound up getting so frustrated that we just cut the two pillar columns surrounding the changer out and parting it out like that. I dont know the condition of your interior and if your trying to sell the dash but that was a simple fix after a long frustrating day of parting out the car.
basically you have to carefully pop the whole faceplate off the body of the headunit. the faceplate has metal clips at each corner that clip into the dashboard, that's what is holding it in after you get those two screws out. It's a pain, those clips are in there pretty tight.
The only screws are those two that are underneath and inside the panel.
take a long screwdriver like..6inches long. poke it into the opening underneath. there's a place that you can put it in and pry the HU outwards. since it's a totalled car, it's probably easier for you just to take a flat screwdriver/chisel and break the tab on the console that's holding the clip in. there are 4 of them. top left, bottom left, bottom right and on the way top right edge near the emergency button. that one might cause some problems.

to push out the headunit you need to use a lot of force. the amount of force you need seems to be extreme but that's what is needed. put your hands into the opening in front of where the screws are and push really hard on your left hand side, the top left portion should pop out. then push near the hazard light. becareful here. when that pops out. you are in the clear. hope this helps.
