195/60R14 OR 195/50R15????
will both tires give me the same performance if both are YOKOHAMA ES100??? or will the smaller sidewall be equal to much better performance (id have to buy 15" wheels)
thanks in advance

But see you cant really compare the 2 because thats different size rims and what not.
Actually in the end wouldnt they be the same tire just about?

thats what im asking, is it worth it to buy 15inch wheels and 15inch tires instead of just slapping those tires on my current wheels. And im not asking if it looks better, just if it performs much better or not (the smaller sidewall that is)

I'd still go 195-50-15.
The sidewall is a little stiffer so your ride will respond to steering input a little more but it's a small difference. I really don't notice any ride difference.
I didn't gain any performance in acceleration when I switched from 185-65-14s.

195's on 14's might look a little wierd, depending on your perception, if your putting it on the same size rim as the stock 185's came on. The additional tread width of the 195's makes the tires come out away from the rim, giving it a slight hourglass look. I say this because I put some free 195's on after my Yokohama AVS's went
That's looks. As far as drag racing performance, I'd imagine the 14's would be better. More sidewall to flex and give grip, and less rim to reduce rotational mass seems like it'd equal better acceleration. I do know that less wieght on your wheel hubs means more gas mileage for daily driving. With gas costs like they are, that's definately a good thing.
I hope this helps.

thanks a lot. I dont have any gas problems as I pay 2$ for a full tank of 95octane.
On a side note, what would give me better cornering grip 185/60r14 yokohama AVS ES100 or 195/60r14 of the same Yokohama es100 tire?? im asking because of the hourglass thing

From: hittin corners so hard you can taste my rims..
i noticed big time spool incresse on my hatch when i went from a 55-15 down to a 50-15. that little 05 series helped my turbo spool like 500 RPM's faster, other than that.. the sidewall flex from 14" to 15" is minimal.
i wouldn't sweat it.

I would just stick with your stock tire size. Unless you are very experienced in handling your car at its limit, you won't notice any differences.
I would say yes the change from 14 to 15" is really worth it.
especially if you get an aftermarket rim.
most are 6.5" width with a more aggressive offset,
which means a wider stance and a wider wheel.
Your car will be more planted and maneuverable.
I have 195-50-15 es100's on my car right now,
they are good tires, especially for daily driving, treadwear seems good, grip is good too.
I would like the grip to be GREAT, but you cant have everything I suppose. Seems the more PSI you run in them the better they grip, which would lead one to conclude that flex is an enemy to this tire. So I wouldn't recommend a 14" version, unless you're just trying to save money overall.

yes, saving money is kinda my objective. I already have 14inch wheels and even getting new ones (like HX's) is very cheap compared to 15". Now if I go 14 wat size tire should I buy, stock 185/60 or a wider 195/60, both in yokohama avs es100.
Thanks for all the replys

i'd say the 15" is worth the extra money honestly,
they're really good.
performance wise 15" is really optimal for civics over any other size(bigger or smaller)
if you're sticking with 14", get the wider tire imo,
but the 195/60's do have a pretty gnarly fat sizewall.
