my mechanic said "ACT 6 puck is too harsh"
I have to replce my transmission and i got a good deal on a 90 si, but i have an 88 so i needed to buy a new clutch and flywheel.
I got the Fidanza 7.5lb flywheel and I want to get the 6 puck because someone is going to hook me up on the price.
Ive already been driving around with an ACT stage 2 so how much harsher could it get?

what kind of damage
what kind of damage
too many people hopped on the stupid 6puck wagon..... there is something called overclutching you car..... you dont need an ACT hdpp with 6puck if you got a single cam with i/h/e. your just gonna make your car slower
I can kill a tranny on a stock clutch. Who needs a 6 puck?
When I did have a 6 puck I didnt kill a tranny from it. I had the 6 puck on my 88 tranny and when it started grinding to bad I put a newer tranny in it.

Do you need a 6 puck clutch? You don't mention your setup anywhere...
Man, a 7.5lb flywheel AND a six puck....that things going to be like an on/off switch. Whether that's good or not depends on what you're using the car for.
A 6 puck's harsh engagement does but more stress on the tranny...I imagine the input shaft bearing and the diff would rather you use something else.
I could see a 6 puck on a high mileage, loose tranny as hurrying the inevitable...

someone explain..
</TD></TR></TABLE>ive seen input shaft bearings go out from them, also seen 2 differetials strip out because of them. Ive also seen 1 tranny with damage to the gears from a unsprung 6 puck.
your also gonna wear out that flywheel quick too. the harsh engagement will eat the disc up fast . trust me i use a street strip disc with a stg 2 pp and it works great and feels like stock . not to mention im probably close to 200 whp on my poormans typeR. trust me you dont need it . its just a fad that everyone hopped on to feel better about themselves . no they`re trannies hate them for it .
I used a stock Flywheel lightened and balanced to 12lbs and a ACT 6 puck disc with a stock pressure plate..........I tore my tranny case and mount within 2 weeks!!! This was with a Dohc ZC and Si Tranny.
it is harsh but the engagement I experienced was very quick, I could damn near sit at a stop sign in 1st gear idling. Traffic was a bitch too, I can't reiterate that anymore!!! Rush Hour traffic + 6 puck =

Is it sprung or unsprung? I had a sprung 6 puck and I got used to it after a while. I did change it out for a full face though. 6 pucks aren't needed unless you are frying full face discs constantly IMHO!

in my last rex which was a dx i used a 6puck disck with no springs and the damage that it did was snap the bold in the front motor mount. In my new rex i dont think im going that way im prolly only going to go with a 2 maybe 3 stage clutch from act. but like you said 200 is too cheap to pass up

Yep, things can end up broken. Do a little searching around and you will see.

wow IMO i think a lot of people talk out of their ***... i'm using a 4 puck right now but i've used a 6 puck for a good 5 years on cable and hydro trannies.. havent broke anything... launch on slicks more times then i can count.. you cant blame it all on the clutch.. it is harsh for the intake header exhaust my car is fast type guys but if you're going to use it for what it is for then buy it ... and 200 is a damn good price.. new that is..

I agree to a point.
Half the problem is the owner but its still harder on the driveline so even with proper use it will strain the driveline.

i agree but .. using racing parts and/or any part you have to maintenance them.. it's not a stock honda that is going to last 10 years 300k miles with no oil changes... you have to maintenance everything
