** PROTECT YOUR CAR NOW!! **
props to sro for the info
[i]You've spent thousand of dollars fixing up your car. Now it's a target for thieves. How can you protect it?
I hear it everyday. I came out this morning and my car was gone! I had the ultra mongo car alarm with triple motion detectors. Damn man my car is gone! Cops call 8 hours later...."Uh we found your car in Oakland. It's totally stripped."
Another car casualty. It's just too common of a site these days. People jackin other peoples rides. Most car thieves these days just use a tow truck and come up and tow your car away. Your alarm won't go off because you didn't install the tilt sensor. Even if you had that sensor your car can be long gone before anyone knows whats going on.
Well what can you do? It's a bit costly, but I think it's worth it. There is a system called Guidepoint systems. How it works is like this. You activate the system and go about your business. If your car is started for 2 minutes without the system being deactivated you get a call from the Guidepoint call center.
If your car is moved about a mile from where it was activated, you get a call from the call center. If your car gets jacked, they call you. You can then jump online and see where you car is via their website. You can actually track your cars location via the web. Say your girl took your car out. Where did she really go? You can find out now
.
The system starts off at about $500 installed. Then they charge $100/year. That's $8.25 a month. If your really worried about your car getting jacked then save up. Where can you get it installed at? Autohaus in Hayward installs these systems. My buddy got his done there, so his ride is protected. I don't work with Autohaus, but I hear they are pretty good. Here is their info:
Autohaus Automotive Inc
Address: 21650 Mission Blvd, Hayward, CA 94541
Phone: (510) 881-1915

Apparently the ability to go online and see where your car is on their website. If it worked, unlike some of the cases of Lo-jack I think its a good idea.

Hopefully that's not the case. I have Boomerang 2 in Canada and it's exactly like the product he's talking about only if the battery IS disconnected it has it's own power source that is good for 2 weeks.
No matter what by then it's too late if they haven't found it but this product should have somthing like that otherwise it's pointless.

one of these days... there's going to be a post about a guy who puts up a bed in his garage next to his ITR and sleeps in the garage.
lol... that would be tite.
jk jk.. but still tite
hrm.. i'm sure you guys with ITR's could have some hidden location for a mini-battery for your car alarm..
if i had one, i woudl be very pleased with the ability of the car in natural factory form, and would spend alot of money on security features before anything else..
good luck to you all.

Another difference between this and LOJACK is that as far as I know, LOJACK has specific coverage areas. I live near Minneapolis, and according to the LOJACK website they don't have coverage here. This product seems to be nationwide.
Another service I have seen is NETWORKCAR -- http://www.networkcar.com
I know there are others too...

I wonder how you "deactivate the system"?
If you only have 2 minutes to do it, it cant be that complicated. I wonder what is special about it that makes them think the thief couldnt disarm the system just like they would any other alarm or tracking device?

Lo-jack just acquired boomerrang tracking inc. So lo-jack will get better.
With boomerrang 2 you know instantly when your car moves, has its own battery and tracks by cellular towers.

Well my homeboy has a casio gps watch that you use for kids to locate them. All you do is throw it somewhere in the car and your done. You have 24 hr service just like the other systems and it has its own batt, and the best thing is you don't have to worry about the people who are putting the system in being shady. i seen him use it and it works just as well as the car tracking system at a fraction of the cost
