Default What have you had to repair or replace on your R in it's lifetime or ownership time? Both, Warranty

I remember a post similar to this some time back but forgot what it's actual title was, and didn't see a reference to it in the FAQ sticky so I figured it a decent idea to catch everyone up and see just how reliable the R is; Stock, Bolt on's only, and even more involved as in NA/cammed, FI and or whatnot.

All we will need is for everyone to list:

1) The year of the car

2) The cars current mileage

3) Are you the original owner and if not what can you share about it's history

&

4) List if you follow the suggested maintenance and service schedule, And of course any problems, warranty and service bulletin issues

5) This MUST be only for genuine Type-R's. No hybrids or other model car please.

Here I go:

My R is a bolt on only car.

1) 2001

2) 39,000

3) Original owner, daily drove for 2 years then retired it to weekend warrior status, for Autocross and HPDE's.

4) I follow the service manuals suggested intervals as per "Severe Duty" and I also tend to change the fluids before every track event, as well as pads, rotors, and tires when need be.

No major problems to date, only removed the cat heat shields since they rattled to death, and had the stock steering wheel replaced under warranty because there was a fray in the leather stitching.

All in all great car, very reliable. My third Gen 3 and second R.

Aem CAI, Comptech 4-2-1

1) 98' # 97

2) 43,4xx miles

3) Second owner. Bought her June 27, 2003. Original owner's brother worked at the same Acura dealership he bought the car from and had it serviced there regularly until I bought it.

4) Oil changed every 2,500 miles or before every track/auto-x event (whichever comes first) Cap, rotor, plugs, wires, fuel filter, valve cover gasket replaced at 40k miles.

No problems yet, possibly a bad wheel bearing in the passenger side front wheel. Tranny bearings make a bit of noise and wil need to be replaced soon. All original clutch and flywheel to date.

1. 2001 with bolt ons

2. 60,000 when sold

3. 3rd owner, bought as theft recovery with no major damage

4. Changed the oil frequently, adjusted the valves at 50,000 miles. Had one alternator issue that resulted in having to purchase a new alternator.

Mods: ACT XT/SS Clutch, Fidanza Flywheel, Spoon 4-2-1 header, Carsound high flow 2.5" catalytic converter, Mugen Strut tower bar, Mugen Pedals.

1.) 97' #171

2.) 71,000 miles and counting fast

3.) second owner, Bought September 21, 2003. The car had a clean Title and only 35,000 miles when I purchased it, It still has a clean title and runs like a champ.

4.)I do most of the regular scheduled maintenance besides a few select things. I have been adjusting my own valves every 15,000 miles. Since I have owned the car I (1)Replaced the clutch master cylinder (2) Replace Clutch and flywheel (stock clutch went out at about 45,000 miles, (3) Replaced timing belt and water pump and some valves at about 52,000 miles(misshift at a roadcoarse event). and (4) Upgraded brake pads and fluid. I burn a little oil but nothing too bad (0.5 quarts per 3000 miles, (5) Replaced cap and rotor, (6) Replaced Spark Plugs and Wires.
My tranny still shifts super smooth so I am very happy considering it sounds like a lot of honda drivers tear up their trannys early. I plan on continuing to have a blast with my 97' and drive it into the friggin ground. (200,000 miles +).
Not too bad for a daily driven, 18-20,000 mile/year vehicle.

Simple bolt on's, removed pw steering

1) 97 #163

2) 84xxx

3) Third owner. Bought in May of 01 with 30xxx. The car still had the plastic on the rear seats, it was just like new.

4) Change the oil every month or after 4 track days, tranny fluid when it becomes hard to shift at the track. The car is very well maintained.

All new exhaust valves at the start of summer-Mis shifted to 11k
Rebuilt the bottom end this summer-Oil starvation at the track
A couple clutches
Fuel pump was replaced at 80xxx
Waterpump was replaced at 65xxx
Distrubutor went around 65xxx
Battery was replaced around 80xxx
Suspension got really soft around 70xxx
Passenger window motor around 60xxx (warrenty)

My rear esuspension bushing have gone to ****, need to replace those this winter. My tranny prop needs a rebuild this winter also.

When the head was fixed and the bottem end was rebuild, everything was replaced with new parts; ie: plugs, gaskets, timing belt, etc

Edit: Car been stolen once, front end repainted twice along with a new bumber, many many high speed offs at the track, its been through hell and back many times.

1. 2000
2. 45,000
3. original owner since sept 00
4. i definately followed the service schedule (if not change things more aggressively) oil change every 4k, spark plugs and fuel filter every 20k, wires and dist cap + rotor at 40k, valve adj every 15k, tranny fluid every 2-3 oil changes, pads, rotors, and brake fluid for every track event

The only problem I have had was the 2-3 syncro going out around 20-30k (replaced under warranty from Baranco ) i don't know if it was because of track use or just 'one of those things' but i'm pretty sure i didn't do anything
The only other thing I did was replace the driver front wheel bearing around 35-38k

5. yup. it's a real hype aaarrrrrrrrrr

1) 2001
2)bought it from original owner oct 03 had 20,026 on it
3)got the service record at my first oil change(was always serviced at acura)
he did everything including the 15,000 service( had new air filter and new
tires. he changed the oil every 4,000 and I have changed it every 2,500.
now has 23,915 as of 9/24/04
the car had the battery replaced a month before I got it.(I assume its because
of the low milage it never got driven!

1) 2000

2) 43000

3) Original

4) I did oil changes at every 3000 with filter. I redid my front pads and rotors at 40000, and i flushed tranny at 33000ish.

When it had like 5000 miles on it, the clutch was squeaking due to a track event, but dealer replaced it with goodwill.

When it had about 3000, it pulled to the right and dealer said they'd replace LCA on left side.

Valve adj at 15000. None were out of spec.

4) Oil change every 4-5k miles, put a new timing belt on it when i got it (the one i took off looked like brand new but didnt want to take the risk) had the car since february this year, done 7500 (approx) miles...original stock engine and doesnt burn a drop of oil and the only thing i replaced was the front left upper control arm, the ball joint was done (thanks to mstewar)

5) This is a true blue JDM 96Spec ITR

1) 2001

2) 25000 miles

3) Original Owner

4) Clutch Master Cylinder was leaking into the cabin and needed replacement at 25K. No after market clutch or flywheel. Trans had never been removed or opened. I think I am the first person I have ever heard with this problem so early. Never drag raced or launched.

1) 1997 #122

2) 75,000 miles

3) 2nd Owner...maybe 3rd??? The history about this car is a bit vauge for me. I purchased it from Len (Baranco Acura) and he/they got it from a guy in Florida who, by any means, didn't take as much care for this car as he should have. Upon me taking ownership of it, the driver side door was replaced due to damage. Driver side rear 1/4 panel has minor damage. Driver side - rear bumper has scratches. Passenger side - front bumper has moderate damage. Factory lip and spoiler were stolen when owned by 1st owner. Cosmeticly it kinda sucks a bit and needs some TLC. Len installed a brand new engine, tranny, intake mani...etc. so the internals have less than 5k miles on it.

4) Had a check engine light for the catalytic converter wire....it amazingly fixed it's self last night. Change oil every 2500 with full synthetic.

5) Real deal, CLEAN TITLE 1997 RRRRRRRRRRRRRR

1. 2000
2. 32,000
3. 2nd owner, bought her in September of 2003. We just had our one year aniversery.
4. I follow all the schedules maintainances set forth on itrca.com. I change my oil every 2,500 miles. Problems: SRS light is on, getting it check this weekend. Window somethings just get stuck when I try to close them, getting that check this weekend too. My car sometimes has trouble starting up, it only happens on rare occasions but it is embarassing.

1.) 2001.

2.) 60,100

3.) Second owner. Purchased 7/2003 from original owner. #895.
Misshifted and grenaded the motor 5/2004.
Rebuilt stronger than ever. Wiseco 11.5:1 pistons, Toda 'C's, Portflow retainers and inner springs, Hytech header, AEM CAI, AEBS IM, RPM 70-66mm TB, Hondata.

4.) Zero factory defects (other than rear view mirror getting kinda funky).
Oil changed every 1,000 miles, tranny oil every 10,000, severe service maintenance schedule for everything else.

Stock drivetrain. Mods include HID, brake rotors and pads, GS-R shift **** and stereo.

1. 2001.

2. 30K, including 3,204 actual racetrack miles.

3. Original owner, bought new in March 2001.

4. Yes, maintained at least as frequently as the schedule. Have changed oil/filter 7 times, front pads 9 times, rear pads twice, front rotors 3 times, brake fluid every spring, just had 30K service (transmission fluid, valve adjustment, air filter, fuel filter). Still using original RE010 tires with 23K miles on them and decent tread (other miles were on track tires and winter tires). Only problems: alignment once (one wheel was so far off it needed a camber kit), and lubed a squeaky clutch pedal.

5. 2001 #1091. It's Phoenix Yellow, so you can tell it's a real one just by looking at it.

1. 2001

2. 82.5k

3. bough it new

4. severe maint schedule and even more sever after being boosted at 65k.. oil changes are now every 2k, filter/sparl plug changes are now every 4k.. valve adj./transmission fluid change are still 15k, dist. rotor/cap/wires and fuel filter, might be 15 or 20k instead of 30k .. rebuild block at 69k (so new seals, timing belt/water pump), replaced clutch at 53k and clutch disk and release bearing again 10k miles later or so. went through 4 sets of tires, brake pads replaced once and front rotors resurfaced and battery change at ~60k or so..

no manufacturers defects, other than noisy passenger window and seatbelts not retracting as fast. possibly the clutch might have been on hondas fault, it never felt right since beginning.. but overall great car to own!
