quick tire psi question
I've got mine fronts @ 35 psi and the backs @ 33psi. I give the fronts a couple of extra lbs to compensate for the weight of the engine.
I'm no tire expert, but 38 psi all around may be a bit high. I'm sure other will chime in soon with different numbers.
Peace
TQ

yes, it is. the tire max psi is what you should follow. not everyone is running stock size tires (door jambs list psi for stock wheels)

uhhhh no, my ES100's list something like 44-45 psi as max pressure. Should I run them that high? helllllll no
The pressure listed on the tire is the maximum the tire can safely accomodate without danger of exploding. It is in no way related to any specific car or the tire pressure that you should use when used on any certain specific car.
Always use the tire pressue listed in the door jamb or owners' manual *measured when cold!*. Those pressures are listed based on the weight of the car. Unless the weight of your car changes, you shouldn't change the tire pressure. If you run a higher pressure, you will have a smaller area of rubber touching the ground, and will wear out the center of the tire tread (yes it is true, happened to me once on my old car after running the fronts at 40 psi).
Running a lower pressure will give you a larger contact patch, but will also allow the sidewalls to flex and roll over more, as well as wear out the outer edges of the tires prematurely.
Unless you're racing, run the stock pressure listed in the door jamb, regardless of tire size.

anyone else believing or following this rule... you got a lot to learn. Read what PatrickGSR94 wrote.... please! I'm starting to understand how some people get 300+ miles to a tank of gas in a integra...

<-- filled up yesterday w/ 370+ miles on my tank, just everyday to and from work driving, VTEC'd at least once a day.

Also too add, a long time ago... when I was 15 yrs old... I too thought you followed the MAX PSI rating ON the tire. I was taught this by my dad, uncle, everyone who I thought knew stuff about cars. Until one day when I was watching motorweek on TV and the mechanic did a little clip on checking pressures and that you always follow the doorjam sticker or the owners manual.
Now if you think back, you have NEVER read ANY instructions ANYWHERE that told you to inflate to the tire pressure ON THE TIRE. The only reason you would think you are supposed to inflate to the MAX PSI stated on the tire would be for the same reason I used to... your dad, mom, uncle, friend, mechanic, girlfriend, grandfather, puppy, imaginary friend, and/or goldfish told you so. But I gaurantee you have never SEEN or READ of any written instructions that told you do any such thing.

I don't know how the hell you guys do that! you guys must drive down hill TO and FROM work! I was excited to get 280 up from 220 this week... now I'm not excited anymore... thanks Pat!

I don't either, my stock (CAI only) 00 gsr only gets 220 a tank.

wow, i stand corrected. this is something i had never researched before. i did know to never use the maximum tire pressure (or anything near it for that matter), but i had always thought lower profile tires should have slightly more pressure than regular profile tires ('ve always run 40 psi on my 40's).
on me... thanks for the heads up patrick and blackls
this is why i love h-t

Well I work at Discount Tire and i can tell you if you want to get right down to it. Look how much weigh each tire is expected to handle (look inside the door jam)and there is a chart that we have at Discount and it will tell you exactly how much pressure to put in each tire.
Run up to one or any tire store shouel have one and ask them

yeah, mines at 38, but i wanted to fill them up to 40.. cuz when i pull in the garage, i scrape the cat heatsheid and i think some of the piping.. so i was thinking if i put more air, it will raise the car up a few so i can clear.. its stock 14inch steelies, on stock tire size. 195/50-55/14? not sure bout the sidewall number. but its stock size.
so look at the lbs each tire handle's, then check doorjam to see PSI rate? then call discount and see what they say bout the PSI rate to lbs tire can handle and set them at that or what?

Yea each tire holds a certin weight and the tires wear best at certin psi's for diffrent weights. If the tires are stokc then just look in the door jam if not call a tire store.

Well I drive 50 miles each way to and from work, averaging ~50 mph the entire trip and use the cruise control most of the time.
I still have to spend $45+ a week in gas, filling up at least twice a week.
