Best speakers for ITR
let me first start off with the size of the speakers. I think the stock ones in the ITR look to be 5 and a quater. NOT sure. I am a new owner of the ITR and I want to know is whether the 6.5 inch will fit my car. Anyone had experience w/ Polk Audio? and why are they good for high performance cars I don't understand. Please recommend me good Component systems.
Yes, 6.5's will fit. I've got Boston Acoustic RX-67 in the front and NX-67 in the back. They are both 6.5" and fit perfectly. The Boston's are awesome!! I had a set of 6x9 Polk Audio in my previous car and wasn't impressed with them. Also, you can't go wrong with a good set of MB Quart either.

i'm not big on music, but i'd say you take it to your local auto-x and listen to the sweet sound of VTEC and then re-evaluate the need for a stereo system in the car

Do you commute in the morning? Every morning, traffic is unbearable and the only thing that keeps my sanity in check is music. I do drive on occasions in total silence, but only when there is no traffic.
I would got with the MB's myself.

You don't drive on long trips, or every day? A stereo is a neccessity, as there isn't much fun in listening to your car idle in traffic

I couldn't hear the radio because of the damn noise (stripped interior), so I removed the radio and speakers....

Earphones are illegal. Reason being is that you cant hear emergency vehicles. I'm pretty sure the "1 ear piece" earthing is fine, but having both ears covered is what is illegal.

It's not completely illegal here in Holland, because many people use a handsfree mobile phone set with earphones.

Will just upgrading the stock speakers make a big difference?
The stock system is pretty weak, but my g/f's stock Civic sounds great. I was considering of putting a small sub in, but that's just one more thing to take out for autox.
Would I be better off with good speakers in the stock spots? I don't really need to thump thru the 'hood, but I would like to HEAR what I'm playing...

I've got a pair of separates up front and a self-amplified Bazooka tube in the hatch. Adds just enough punch to the system, and it's easy enough to remove whenever I need to.
I would add a small amplifier if you swap out the stock speakers, the stock head unit won't put out enough power for upgraded ones.

IM AssPenny. He has a 5" or 6" sub and it actually sounds pretty damn good. I believe he's got an amp & aftermarket deck though. He's weigh a total of 5 lbs or something like that... and he can take it out in a few sec.

Definately. I swapped out just the rear and they play 1/2 as loud as the stock front speakers with the fade set in the middle. And this is for Infinity's which were rated pretty well for efficiency.

The Type R speakers are the best ones for the Type R... no not the factory speakers, but the Alpine Type R
They sound great especially with a small amp driving each pair.

Mine is not a daily driver, nor do i commute everyday. At least not anymore. I guess that's why i don't mind it so much. I guess sitting through traffic everyday would be quite a pain with no beats. But still, u could get a beater for that. Why kill the life of your R sitting in traffic.
I have 4 Cerwin-Vegas powered by a huge amp (which I had to tune down) and it sounds good. Of course there is the lack of Bass, but I had a box (Rockford Fosgate 10'' HE2) in there and the car felt a whole lot heavier.
My EX-girlfriend just bought some Rockford Fosgate 6x9 and 5.25. They sound really good, perfect balance of Bass, highs and mids.
What I was going to do was, I'm going to look for a extra back cover (the long black cover that tops off the hatch to the back seat) and custom fit two 6x9's and upgrade my front speakers. That way you can get the good sound without losing appearance.
