Questions on welding aluminum and Stainless
Soon i will be completing my mx3 project and have a couple of questions about welding.
1. What type of wire would i need to weld stainless with a mig?
2. What would i need to weld aluminum piping?
Both are 1/16th of an inch thick.

both depend on the material yuou're trying to weld. what kind of stainless do you have? aluminum? You won't be able to mig the aluminum, you'd need a spool gun to get anywhere with that.
the guy i bought it from said it was 300 series stainless , I have no idea what this means, enlighten me?
Ill ask the guy i bought it from what type of aluminum it is.

thers 304 , 308, 312, and 321 grade stainless. the hgiher the grade the harder it is and better quality. alum welding with a spool gun works. but isnt that great.
The rule of thumb for stainless is to use a rod # higher then the material your welding so if you are unsure id start with 347
Sounds good now he said that the aluminum is 6061 alloy again could you enlighten me?
Now who should i have weld the aluminum for me? I can weld the stainless i do have a mig.

i tried to weld aluminum w/ my mig machine + 100% argon. the wire wouldnt feed right so i always have a jam. i gave up on welding aluminum w/ a mig.

I had the same issue...you really need a spool gun for aluminum, its just so soft it cant be pushed through the cable it has to be pulled.
