possible clutch tranny problem (clutch wont engage)
im frustrated.
PennDot (PA's oh-so-wonderful road workers) fucked my car up. i was coming to a stop (no more than 5-7mph) when i feel/hear an awful slam. something (whichi later found out was my tie rod bushing) rolled out from underneath my car and into a gigantic puddle (we got fucked from hurricane ivan this past weekend). so im furious i go park my car and i hope everythings cool. i later figure out it had jarred my tie rod bushing over the bolt. this isnt the worst part.
on my way home from work im having a hard time shifting (not a transmission problem it seems; but a clutch problem). so i get to a gas station park it and there it sat for a day or two until i had time to go back and **** around with it for a bit. i fix the tie bar situation, do visual check of the linkage, tranny, clucth cable, clutch pedal and everythign seems fine. start it up; iit doesnt go into gear. ****!
i get it towed, i rip off the tranny to find that the spring on my throwout bearing had snapped (i ghetto rigged the spring the last time cuz it broke so i was asking for it to break on me). i replace it with a new spring, check to make sure the clutch arm was moving the throwout bearing smoothly (it was), and put everything back together.
i get in my car, put my foot on the clutch; the pedal's dead. i proceed to tighten my clutch cable, but even after tightening it all the way down i still had a dead pedal. im confused/pissed off now because i have a new throwout bearing, clucth, PP, throwout bearing spring, and clutch cable but i have a dead pedal???
someone please give me some insight im stumped. i need my car by saturday for a race!
TIA

It's possible that your clutch fork is bent or the pivot point has worn through. If you were just in there and didn't notice if either one of these was the case then your probably just fucked. Just guessin I'd say the pivot ball broke off or wore through the clutch fork, but I'm diagnosing something from 600 miles away on a keyboard.
so just replacing the clutch fork could solve the problem? i have a ls tranny i could swap the fork off of that.
is it possible that something is internally damaged?
thanks for the help...anyone else?

ok so i took the clutch fork off, reattached the throwout bearing and spring, put the tranny back on and the clutch fork moves but doesnt do anything. the throwout bearing moves smoothly on the spline and seems like it should make contact with the pressure plate but doenst.
i dont understand how a new clutch setup with no more than 2k on it could be giving me so many problems.
im in desperate need of my car please help.

i cracked the clutch disc and pressure plate off last night and everything seems absolutely fine. no loose/ broken springs on the disc and all the fingers are still strong on the pressure plate.
im not sure where to look for the problem now? my clutch fork moves smoothly (along with the throwout bearing assembly) but its almost like it isnt reaching the pressure plate?
i dunno any advice at this point would be more than helpful
TIA.

You are sure that the cable is adjusted properly and is attached properly under the dash in the clutch pedal?
If so, check the spring, fork, bearing orientation. The bearing should be first, obviously, with the fork next, and the spring attached to the bearing behind the fork, not between the fork and bearing like people often do, which causes the spring to break.
If that is ok, then I'm thinking the cable somehow stretched or is not in the bracket correctly on the transmission. It sould be through the braket with the large nut, and the funny washer thing that holds it in the bracket on the top side of the bracket. There should be a bushing under the clutch arm, and the cable will need to be adjusted probably around 1/2 out. Remember that you will need to be pulling up a little on the clutch arm to get enough adjustment to get the travel required to engage and disengauge the clutch.
When the cable is unhooked, can you move the arm up and hear the throwout hitting the fingers? If so, that point of contact is going to be on the low side of adjustment.
I know this may not be helpful and is sort of remedial, but I really don't know what your level of knowledge on the topic is, so I don't mean to suggest things you already know. I'm just trying to help.

ive gained quite a bit of knowledge over the past year or so. i have done all the normal adjustments (put throwout bearing assembly together in that order, adjusted clutch cable accordingly) but the problem is i dont feel the throwout bearing contacting the pressure plate. what could cause this?
