Default 4th to 5th grind? Help!

Hey guys, I tried the search but came up empty. When I shift from 4th into 5th at between 7k and 8k I get a small grind every time. Normal driving it does not grind. Anyone know what could be wrong? I am gonna change the tranny fluid this weekend and the car only has 10k on it. Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Sounds like the Synchro might be bad....

Does it also happen when the car is cool, (Under normal temp) or only after spirited driving?

Tranny fluid might be a start, but I think you will need more. Hopefully you are under warranty.

LMAO. I wanna see you take that one to the dealer

But seriously, the ITR synchros are a recognized weak point in the car from many racers and a handful on this list. Try switching tranny fluids to BG Synchroshift ofr the GM fluid which is also recieved lots of praise.

4-5 I have to ask why you would be going that fast and why you'd need to shift that quickly anyway. If you're matching revs, it shouldn't be an issue anyway and I can't imagine really hurrying that shift....just my $.02

slowing down doesn't solve the problem cause if somethings wrong with the tranny, I gotta fix it some day!

I bought the car with 8100 miles. Under normal daily driving circumstances it is fine. Not a hint of a grind. I don't always shift at 8k into 5th. This was like the 4th time. Had a nice stretch of highway and it was only for a second I didn't rush the shift, just shifted normally. I hope that the new tranny fluid will do the trick. If not I do have a warranty.

The dealer HAS to cover it.....

There is no way they can prove abuse from shifting 4th to 5th.

BEsides I know a person that has had it replaced twice. Its real common, so they should not give you problems..if they do..go to another dealer.

Just be honest...dont sound like you are trying to get over on them and you will be treated fair.

Same thing happend to me this weekend with 2500 miles on my R. I was pulling away from a giant crome grill in my rear view mirror at 90+ MPH Need to see if this is repeatable now. I thought at the time I had accidently hit reverse...

I'm starting to feel more and more happier about my dealer, or maybe i should be more afraid

The dudes keep insisting that i should rev the car to 8k often. They reckon i should "GO HARD ON IT" in the first 1000k's. What a joke, as long as they fix what problems i may get, i ain't complaining.

My dealer was cool too. He encouraged me to take it to redline during my test drive. I just hope the service department/manager are as cool.

Yup. I'm picking up my R from having the 3rd Gear synchro (and gear set) replaced under warranty. 41K miles.

I have had this problem before the dealer will fix it just make sure the dealer fixes it right... they replaced sycros and a couple of gears and some controlling arms...It can be done they will not say no even if they think you were racing!
My car is in the shop right now getting a grind from 2nd to 3rd at redline they said it could have been from racing but warranty coverd it anyway... if you have any problems call Acura directly or give me or Austin a IM and we can help!!

a little grind? well you said between 7-8grand maybe your hands are faster than your feet and your scratching it. Thers a diffrence between scratching and grinding. But then again it might be your schynroz. ITR tranny is strong i never had that problem in mine. TRY shifting a little slower 4th to 5th at that high rpm see what happens (watch your feet)
