oil pressure reading ....confused
hey, about a few weeks ago I noticed my oil pressure on my auto meter mechanical oil press. gauge reading 1 or 2 psi lower than normal. i have a b16a that used to max out at 77-78 psi at 3k and 22-24 psi at idle; under normal driving conditions. Now its at 74-76 psi at 3k and 21-23 at idle. Ive had the motor for almost 2 years now and Ive taken excellent care of it. Im worried, could it be normal wear n tear? ive have a few ideas to get the pressure back to where it was , could replacing the oil pan gasket and pvc valve work? By the way, it doesnt leak oil on the ground and sometimes the gauge reads what it used to? im really confused and worried ,pleasee help? thanks (always changed oil before it gets dark brown)
The oil pan gasket could leak, but even then it dosn't directly control oil pressure. If you really want to take off the pan, then check the oil pickup for blockage.
Perhaps check the gauge? Swap it out with a different one see if the readings are the same. I've had my share of issues with Autometer gauges. Once my fuel pressure gauge started reading way low, and I thought the FMU was toast, turned out the gauge malfunctioned. Replaced the gauge, readings were normal.
