Calling the dealer to get one of these cut to my key code.

Just picked up the Prelude Red H key at the dealer. They cut it from the VIN, and everything feels smooth! Now that makes it feel like it was worth it to rebuild the door lock cylinder!

With the new O2 sensor, I was curious how she would do at the emissions test. We do it every other year here, and this is my year.

I just heard on the radio that they are waiving emissions inspections for vehicle registration renewals b/c of the corona-virus. Crazy!

One side of mine recently lost some of the red in the H. Kinda bummed. Maybe I'll look for some touch-up paint.

Love it. I have a Darth Vader in my Black hatch and an OG Stormtrooper in my White EJ2.

I can deal with that. The new key cut feels so nice in the rebuilt door cylinder that I should have had them cut me a new regular Honda key blank as well!

Now that I have been in the door, I feel like I could apply the Shin Etsu to the lower portions of the run by the door card and peeling the moisture barrier. So I think I will order some and see what I think.

The spring ended up not being a big deal. You can wind the regulator off the gear at one of travel only. If you do that it is very easy to place the spring under no tension, and then it will tense as you roll the regulator the other way. So was you roll the window down, you are winding the spring, rolling up, the spring unwinds and provides some assist to raise the glass.

I got everything back together. Putting the window run back in is a minor PITA.
Getting the glass back in the window run channels correctly is more of a PITA, but after trying a few times, and then having to pull the glass again b/c I had to pull the regulator and install spring.

Why do things once, when you can do it multiple times? Usually after I have done the job wrong a few times, I can do it right and everything falls into place!

I went out and tried the window this morning when it was cold - much better! And no weird noises either. I wonder if that clock spring had been in there cocked for a while?

I also lubed up all the linkages for the door handle and lock mechanism - inside and out, much nicer! I love doing little things that make the Civic feel nice and new.
The window action is so nice now - ironic that I am no longer driving to work!
I do think the clock spring was bound, or other wise in a messed up orientation...

BTW: Shin Etsu grease is a special silicon grease Honda sells for conditioning weather stripping and window seals. I think it makes the rubber swell a little to quiet wind noise. Not sure how long it lasts as I've never tried it myself.

And picked up some of this when I went to get the key cut - thanks!

I thought I would try to pull some pics from recent projects off my phone to post in here - that was a mistake!

When did Apple and Windows start sucking so bad?

All I get are errors and .heic files my box can't open.

Awesome...

Darn.

The old ones feel pretty smooth - if anyone wants them, let me know and they are yours for the cost of shipping. I might hang onto the factory springs, not sure how much I will like the lowered clearance.
Finally got my picture situation under control. There were a few things about the driver side rear that did not look that cool. Could have been the source of some weird noises.
This is why I like to do my own work, if I can.
I don't think it was a great choice to re-use the factory dust covers on the KYB:

I pulled the pass side spring/shock combo, just because it is more fun on the exhaust side (kidding, the creaking was louder on that side). I then re-connected the lower control arm and cycled the assembly. The creaking is pure upper arms, right at the inboard bushing where the upper arm attaches to the vehicle.

https://www.hondaacuraonline.com/oem...BlZWQtbWFudWFs

The rough part is that the bolt for the other end of the arm is fully seized in the bushing. I think the only way to replace that upper arm is to get a hacksaw in there to cut through that bolt, which means also cutting through the crush sleeve for the bushing.

Wish I had a sawz-all.
Overdosing on pictures today b/c happy I got my phone to behave and give up them pictures!

Upper rear control arms:

Loosen old bolt so it spreads:

A little sawzall magic:

Nice and quiet now!

When I pulled the pass side front shock/spring I noted a few things; the spring was not properly "clocked" in the shock housing - so the end was not in the proper position, the spring was bowed in place - not straight up and down, the bowed spring was contacting the metal OEM dust shield that had been re-used from the original shocks.

Now w/ new H&R springs plus new KYB AGX, and new dust shields, I have none of that chirp-chirp noise from the front when going over irregularities in the road - so nice!

I will try to get some pictures going, but my computer (Win 10) is failing to pull pictures off the iPhone these days. Just what I need, something else to **** me off!
Here is how the passenger front looked when I pulled it - note all the rubbing between the dust shield and shock tube, and how the spring was not positioned properly, and the bow in the spring.
This is why I like to do my own work if I can:

Since I took the pics, just detail how I put everything together. Sometimes it comes in handy...

One last project, and then I will leave you all alone...

I pulled the rear bumper cover to see how difficult it would be - thinking about a re-paint. I noticed the inner beam was getting rusty on the exhaust side - time to go!

Compare to the old:

The old one was splitting at the seams:

Get the new one in - the captured nuts were just a hair off - probably the worst fitting OEM Honda part I have installed:

Styrofoam on:

Then put the cover on. It was snug! Like when your girlie gets some new jeans and she has to stuff all dat goodness in there. I had to sart with the 2 x 10mm bolts underneath and then the top screws, then the outer 2 side screws:

Got an oil/filer change in and rotated the tires too! Not a bad weekend.

I'm surprised you didn't spray rust converter on the paneling behind the bumper bar and paint it real qwik before putting the shiny new bumper bar on.

I can only wish for the day I can buy all new shiny Honda brand parts..... :p

Good job btw. Great work!

No rust to convert! It would be cool to paint in there though. I tried to find the correct code of touch up paint at the local parts store, but I could not find the correct code:

Thanks for the compliments! It feels really good to track down and eliminate issues!

As funny as it sounds, the new key, and the smooth driver window crank have made a huge difference in the feel of the car. Getting rid of the creaks and groans make a big difference as well.

I do feel fortunate I can throw down coin on parts. My wife and I have committed to not having car payments, so instead, I take good care of our vehicles. I shop carefully for parts and do the work myself - as it looks like you do too! A lot cheaper, and more satisfying than just making a car payment every month.

On Sunday I was under the car putting the belly pan back on (it had been off since the engine rebuild started) and the bottom of the compressor looked wet. I wiped it with my finger and there was leak-check dye on my finger. I thought that was a bummer.

So my charge lasted about a week and a half.

I wonder if that humming noise was AC compressor? It sounded like it was coming from the back though - pass side rear...

Going back through this thread for my references to weird noises, I have been hunting noises since at least summer of '18, probably longer.

Pretty sure the metal dust shields rubbing on the shock tubes front and rear, plus the front spring not properly "clocked" have been contributing factors. Hopefully now I can have some nice, quiet drives in my little Hatch!

How's the idle issue?

I have also been chasing a random idle issue for awhile. On Instagram, I saw someone with an EJ change a seal on the brake booster I did not know existed. They made a video about it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLe4...ature=youtu.be

The part number is:
46185-se0-003
https://www.hondapartsnow.com/genuin...5-se0-003.html

I am going to be changing this on mine at some point soon. Sometimes my idle gets low at a stoplight or something and rapidly pumping the brake pedal repeatedly will make it jump back up so I am hoping this is the issue!
