1998 Manual 5 gears S40 Canadian Civic DX EJ6 - D16A P2J-3 stamped 97. For sure engine is swapped from the previous owner. As far as i know D16A must be JDM?!?!? Cant find any info for the stock engine when using the VIN decodersPics tomorrow as it is dark now. I'm bothered whether it is VTEC SOHC or Non VTEC. Solenoid is there(without green connector) but i heard that is not enough?

P.S. Pics as promised:

98 DX would have been a D16Y7 non vtec motor. If they kept the stock EXU, they could have slapped in vtec or non vtec D16A jdm motor and just run it non vtec.

Your intake manifold should have the horizontal style throttle body where the mouth is pointed up to the underside of the hood.

Thanks a lot. Yes it is that type of throttle which kind i hate;-)))).On top of it touches the bonnet so they add some thick tape to not have scratches. So will check the ECU numbers (right from the passenger legs isn't it?) and let you know. Meantime the code pics are edited in my previous post if that have some significance.

P.S. P2E-L32 is what the ECU reads

The question though remains which type head i have - y5 or y8 and if that can be figured out without opening the cover.

I really can't add it to the list as a 98 DX. It's a swap, and it could be a JDM D16A head for all you know.

The ECU appears to be your stock ECU.

Thanks for all the info. It is 4 door sedan if it make any sense and by the VIN it appears as DX. So as last resort to confirm the head type I’m about to open rocker cover after I figure out how much cost the new gasket. :-)). Will keep you posted.

HondaPartsHero has a thread here describing how to locate the head and block codes on your engine.

The list below combines and updates the head codes posted in these two related 2004 threads: Thread 1 and Thread 2.

I thought the large membership in this forum might further enlarge the list by posting the head codes of your engines. For example, my 97 Civic DX with a P2A-11 head was a new addition to the list.

SOHC Head Codes

DOHC Head Codes
what about pm3-5

Sadly, here come the bad news. After posting in D-series forum, someone advise me that if only one inlet valve is actuated at a time, the engine is VTEC-E, so D16Y5 in my case. Trying to avoid chances of damaging the rocker cover gasket i refrain from opening it, as from the filler cap you can see both springs and top of the rockers of cylinder one inlet valves. I leave the engine on idling and what i can see is only one moving valve(the external one). Will try to make a clip and upload the link here. So is this enough to confirm i have Y5? If yes it is sad, cause i'm not continuing with the swap but leaving it as is due to lack of time and employment termination. Waiting for your help.
Thanks.

You seem to have an HX vtec-e head on a mystery D16A block managed by a DX non-vtec ECU. Does it run ok? I would think it would run poorly since the DX ECU will expect both intake valves to fully open. But maybe you can drive it until your employment sitution improves?

Yes, as expected it is "lazy" or tired i can say. Funny enough at the scrap yard there are only p2c ECU's(the most common middle east equipment of EXi/LXi).

Are you sure it's PMS and not PM5?

I'm about to do a head gasket on my 97 LX and the head code is P2f-HA-6. Haven't seen it anywhere really online and was wondering if something was up. Thanks in advance!!
