Whatever the case on the painted-over factory tape line may be, it looks like a ******* Maaco job to me. It literally ruins pretty much any otherwise badass EG I see.
Yes, this is my opinion. Feel free to argue all you want about that.
While we're on the subject of painted vs. unpainted my rear wing and JDM thin side moldings are color matched. Definitely not correct, but IMO looks and flows better. The bumper holes for the tag mounting bracket and hood emblem have been shaved too, as well as the washer nozzles from the hood. The nozzles have been integrated into the plastic cowling at the bottom of the windshield. All of these are not OEM spec, but IMO all look better than the OEM alternatives.
The fact remains that Honda left the bumper grills unpainted at one point, and the rear bumper trim unpainted.
The rear bumper OEM cover when brand new has the very distinct smooth "tape line" even on the 94-95 bumper. I know this because I used to deliver Honda parts. I've also ordered brand new bumpers for my old 1992, and a friend's 1994 VX.

Also, I'm not sure about the "Macco" comment. The straight masked black edge on the back bumper always reminded me of the Circa-2001 nascar era, and how they would use high-cut rear bumpers.
Someone posted some question regrading the tucked harness, and the added difficulty of troubleshooting electrical issues should I ever need to. I'm guessing he deleted the post?
That's understandable, but this harness is of the highest quality. Everything is re-pinned properly, soldered, heatshrink wrapped, etc. etc. where it needs to be. Every engine side connector is custom labeled with the connector/sensor name, which is absolutely better than OEM in terms of troubleshooting. I have the very ETM (electrical troubleshooting manual) he used to build the harness, and it has all the re-pin notes written so I can effectively trace issues if ever needed. It's from a corrosion-free state, was garage kept, and continues to be in a milder climate and always garage kept so I don't see wiring issues ever really popping up unless rodents decide to nest in it LOL. It also doesn't stay "stored" for long periods, so the rodents thing hopefully won't ever be an issue.
Nice! Are those the nozzles that shoot a wide pattern, or shoot two thin streams?
Someone was telling me about nozzles that fit the stock EG hood holes but will disperse a wide pattern vs. the 2 little streams that never seem to be in the correct place...
Do you mind me asking how much the front bumper cover runs? Thanks!
I too prefer the unpainted front side grills and unpainted rear lower cover whether it's factory correct or not. For the record though...
92/93 came with unpainted front side grills and unpainted rear lower cover.
94/95 came with painted front side grills and rear lower cover painted.
not really sure why it took me so ******* long to look in here, anyways, the hatch looks so good man holy ****. k24 supercharged, so bad ***. must be a lot of fun to drive, looks so clean.

Well the title was vague as **** on purpose. I thought more old school dudes would recognize it, but it's all good.
I appreciate the kind words. It's just a 2.0L K20A2 though. Stock longblock on 13psi. I fear a 2.4L won't clear my hood, and the custom engine harness is already pretty tight. Not sure it'll stretch to accommodate a 2.4L.
If anything ever happens to this engine I'll swap in a K20A-R. I love the revs.
I seem to remember 92 EX sedan and Si hatch had black mirrors too before being color matched 93-95.
My 1992 Si and my wife's 1992 Si both had unpainted plastic mirrors. She got hers from the original owner, and it had never been modified - didn't even have a radio in it still! The older lady drove it like that for SIX years before selling it to my wife.
It's funny how Honda did little things here and there even when it wasn't a mid-cycle refresh.
Does anyone remember the 1993 coupe-only seats, and how the bolsters had some harder material that had a funny pattern?
Then the 1994-1995 EX had the much nicer, almost velour-like bolsters:

As long as these are correct you're golden. If someone took an old used harness and tried to do a tuck with it yeah they will have problems. I've read about them on here and unfortunately there could be no help given other than to look at the FSM, backtrack on your wiring and make sure they aren't being cut up by the frame.

The guy I bought it from is also the builder. He's a Honda master tech, and while that alone does't necessarily mean **** (I've known a few master techs that could never think outside of the box) he did approach everything on this car with an attention to detail that I've not seen before. The line tuck, and harness he crafted are amazing. you might have missed it, because this thread is multiple pages now, but the immobilizer works. It can be scanned from an OBD2 port, or via USB through the Hondata ECU itself. I have yet to find any corners cut, at all.
The custom labels on the connectors are a ridiculous touch.

'92 Si had no radio? My '94 came w/ super-fly tape deck! Still have it...

Honda really was at the top of their game all through the 90s. The chassis and engines that they produced to this day are still landmarks for development, especially under the budget constraints they had and the price point they were selling the cars for. Just an insanely modular platform. B16B, B18C5, and later the F20C will forever be marked in history as some of the best 4 cylinder engines... Even by todays standards they're much better than most.
Then we hit the double wishbone -> mcpherson strut changeover, Civics started getting fat, and from there on I stopped caring
I've not tried the nozzles. I only saw them work when the seller reattached the tubes under the cowling, but I was too busy trying to make sure the solution didn't get on the paint LOL.
The bumper cover? Man the last one I ordered was back in 2002-2003?
