The Official Formula 1 2017 Season Thread
I'm not sure if VET on the Mediums for 30+ laps would have been able to keep the lead from HAM. It would have been close doe. HAM was still setting fast laps at the end of the race.
Yeah I legitimately enjoyed it.
Though everything pretty much went as I'd like it to. HAM winning, Force India having a good day, Verstapo/BOT out, Wehrlein doing well (I think the dude is good enough to be a #1 on a good team) and generally close racing throughout.

amazing how well that car runs. i'd love to see a running tab of expenses. whats your yearly cost of operation etc?
did you mod the turtle to reduce aero drag?

We've also improved out pit stop times from 15 min each to about 4 minutes by using high flow fuel jugs (6 gallons in 30 seconds to dump instead of 5 gallons in 2 minutes), but we're still limited by the stock fuel filler neck diameter. We removed the nozzle restrictor flap, so the only way to get faster refueling is switching to a fuel cell.
The only aero mod we've made to the turtle is to spin in backwards and duct tape the gaps in front. We always discuss taking it off but we can't bring ourselves to do it.
Costs vary - depending on what breaks and how much fuel we use (which depends on WHEN we break) It averages about $600 - $1000 per person per race between car prep, race entry fees, and fuel. This was the first race we did where nothing broke so we were all ecstatic. Last race we lost a trans in the 1st hour...$2200 to replace and pretty much wasted weekend.
There are ways to stretch your dollar though. We use race brake pads and the softest tire compounds allowed, but teams will save money by using lifetime warrantied street brake pads, and replace them for free every race; and use bargain brand Chinese street tires. We had to use street pads once and they held up surprisingly well - you just had to brake waaaaaaaay early.
would love to see this for the lemons race.
this season might shape up to be a classic where BOT and RAI decide the title by how much they help the #1 drivers
Insights & Analysis - INTERVIEW: Stroll fights his corner
And how about Hamilton?
He didn't get to spend every weekend playing with his friends because McLaren was paying him to race karts.
