Finally got all terrains ! General Grabber AT2 215/75/15. I got lucky because someone special ordered them and flaked on the shop so l got em for buy 3 get 1 free with an alignment as well.
Yes to the roof rack and the step bars and the rear table and the fold out tent and the offroad rally type fog lights and the bull bar and the...etc etc...etc...etc...
When it comes to roof racks, how is the max amount of pounds measured? The oem racks are rated what? 75lbs? So does that mean each rack can handle up to 75lbs which is 150 total? Only being able to throw 75lbs up there seems like a damn rip...
I'll see other racks on eBay and they'll be rated at 150lbs.
If you want more weight up top it'd be best to go with an aftermarket Yakima or Thule type crossbar set up.
The cross bars are literally held on by only 3 or 4 cap bolts in each foot, they'll rip out with too much weight.
On top of that, one must always mind the center of gravity. This is why it's retarded to throw a 30lb spare, full ice chest, and all your recovery gear on the highest point of your vehicle where it puts the greatest rollover stress on the vehicle.
I mostly bought the crossbars for looks, and if I do throw anything more than a rooftop box full of bulky stuff (think big sleeping bags and stuff that'll take up space but not have much mass) up there I'll upgrade it to an aftermarket set up.
The most I'll put up there would be a light weight 2 person kayak.
Installed the eBay OEM style crossbars today. Not super satisfied with them (had to elongate the slotted holes for alignment of the foot pads) but for $67 I can't really complain.
No structural problems. They're aluminum with an oval cross section. The channel has a rubber strip for cover. I've hauled duffle bags and my kids climb up there without problems. The end caps mounted well but have cheap plastic covers that can fall off. They're only cosmetic.
Hey Gene, finally got around to purchasing the eBay crossbars. Did you have any issues with the bars whistling? I'm getting a really annoying whistle from them. If I open the slide the sunroof up it stops the whistle at about 60mph.
I'm thinking I either need to add either a fairing, or a rack to buffer the wind noise.
I was also thinking of maybe a DIY solution to use some pipe insulation and zip ties to give disrupt the airflow a bit and see if that helps.
Final thoughts before I pull the trigger. Cragar 15x7 -0mm Offset, 6mm Spacers and the BF Goodrich 215/75R15 WITHOUT lifting the V. Will it rub a little, a lot, will it work or will it not? Thanks!
