Heres mine after I plowed through a snow drift, 1" spacers in the rear to correct the sag ( you wouldnt know it, its loaded with tools in this pic)
- yokohama geolanders, bigger than stock, I cant recall the actual size at the moment
- curt basket on sport rack crossbars
shes torn down as of today to fix a burnt exhaust valve. Starting to think about a bull bar and another inch of lift all around.
Love the white and 1" spacers in the rear. What spacers did you go with? I like the curt basket also, any idea how much it ran you and the dimensions? I am in the market for a basket soon. Tires could be 215/75/r15 like I have on mine.

It was $110 for the rack and $50 for the extension to make it full size, and then another $160 for the sport rack bars. At first I thought it sat up to high and looked weird but its grown on me. I may get two mini light bars soon and put them up front on either side and fill the gap a bit. its a perfect spot for them
I wasnt about to spend $100 or more on spacers and I heard somewhere (maybe in this thread, cant remember) about making your own so I ordered 1" high density
plastic from mcmaster carr.com and cut them out with a jigsaw and drilled them. took me an afternoon and a trip to the hardware store for longer bolts for the shock
mounts. If your interested I can give you some more info.
Oh and the curt basket is not very good, its a bit flexible and the paint is thin and shows uv damage quick, and its starting to rust in the weld connections after about 1.5 - 2 years. That being said, i beat the hell out of it and over load it constantly and it holds up.

If you could shoot me that info on how to make those spacers, that would be huge. Pretty simple to make i assume? I have a drill press and a jig saw.
I am really having a tough time whether or not to run Bilsteins or something cheap like Sensens. Darth Vader needs new shocks, struts and end links badly so just going back on fourth on which route go. Would like a 1-1.5" lift also but don't want extra stress on axles and ball jolints, etc. Do you know if that small of a lift will harm anything else? Want OME springs but not sure I want to spend the extra and I've heard you loose ride quality with those springs and Bilsteins.
I wonder how the eBay basket would hold up. What are the measurements of yours from side to side and front to back? I really cant wait to get my factory roof rack tomorrow and get it installed. Then I will research and order a basket and LED light bar.

But really if I was doing it again I would spend the extra and get the complete strut lift kit, especially if you already need struts. I got my spacers made from aluminum and it took me a day to put them on.
Smaller lift will have less additional ware but anything off spec will ware more. And remember the size of the spacer is not the amount of lift you'll get.
I have no rust issues with my basket and I'm in Northern BC so we get very long winters here. I also didn't like the way the basket sat really high on the rack so to change that look I drilled 3 more holes in the wind deflector near the top and then it lowers the deflector covering the gap.
Berz where did you get your rack and what are the dimensions? Do you like the light bar, any issues?
Got the rack second hand. It's standard size with the extension added. As for the light bar, I love it. It makes such a huge difference. I've got 1 ticket so far in the 2 years of having it. Unfortunately its to big for my Element so I'll have to get a smaller one to fit the grill. They have SAE approved ones now so I might look into that just so I can avoid tickets in the future. Gotta get a set of OEM fogs first though
So I'm not sure if you guys seen but ASR makes strut spacers now where you don't have to turn the top hat 90degrees. I called today and was gonna order 2in all around but they suggest 1.5 for the front because people are having trouble installing 2in in the front without spring compressors. So is a 1.5/2 strut spacers lift doable without spring compressors? If so , is there a thread on exact ways to install because I have a .5in spacer in the rear to get rid of the sag and I kinda had a hard time putting the strut back on with that .5in extra length.

I put 1 1/4 spacers on the front in my driveway and I had a hell of a time. If I hadn't already done the rear I probably would have given up.

I just lifted my 98 couple days ago and although I needed a compressor to get the top hats off for bigger studs I didnt use it for actual install. After fighting the right side for a about an hour and a half I found the easiest way is take everything apart and start by putting the shock in the 2 mounting holes up top just snug then have a buddy help you line up the bottom hole from the fork into the lower control arm it will take a little persuasion with a pry bar once thats in tight I used a floor jack under the "knuckle" to lift the whole assembly to get the upper ball joint back into place. After finding this out on the right side the left side only took about 30-45 min to install with sticky bolts. Did the same for the rears broke everything loose started at the top then focused on the lower shock mount and finally used a jack to line up upper mount into camber kit/upper control arm. Granted only lifted mine 30mm in the front and 40mm in the rears.
did you have to use spring compressors for that 1 1/4 up front ? And what size did you go for the rears ?
Yes spring compressors. And similar to the last post, I actually used a jack to compress it more from the bottom and a few pry bars to get the bolt through the bottom control arm.
1 1/4 front 1 3/4 rear.
Alright thanks for the info guys , now I know spring compressors is a must ! Here's a recent pic of my 97blue and my cousins 99black . Mines with leveling kit, 225/70 tires and 20mm wheel spacers all around. cousins all stock with freshly swapped motor !
Started going through this thread for info on third gen lifts but its just way too long lol. When I had the idea to lift my third gen, I thought I was crazy. Didn't realize how many people lift C-RVs. Anyways, if anyone has any info on lifting a third gen C-RV it would be appreciated. It's proven to be more difficult to figure out what will and won't work. Any lifted third gens i find are just a picture and no info. Since this is my daily so can't afford the down time to experiment. i am waiting to hear back from OME. I have an idea to use the rear OME springs with a 30mm spacer up front. That should give me an inch in the front and an inch and a half in the rear. Just not sure if the springs will work in the back. I know i cant use them in the front because my springs are wound in opposite directions.
Since the last one was a thread inside a thread, I figured we should start a new one.
-Post up pictures of your Offroad/Lifted CR-V!!
I'll start with mine:
2001 Electron Blue Pearl Honda CR-V
5 Speed
15x7 (0 offset) Crager Soft8 with 8mm spacers
Old Man Emu springs
Dude! I know it's been several years since this post and I've been thru just about every page of this sticky. Before I pull the trigger on tires I just wanna make sure a few things on my 2000 crv ex. Mines the same blue and I want the same look but I need to know the tire size. 215 75 seems small for that look. Does a 235 75 fit with a 2" lift and 1" hubcentric spacers without destroying my wheel Wells? Thanks for the reply and that thing is sick!

as far as i know from all the research i have been doing 235 75 should work with a 2" lift. depends on the offset of the rim you are planning on putting on as well. you will clear the fender it might rub when at full lock. best to go to a local tire shop that will let you check the fit before you buy. then buy them online so they will be cheaper lol. most lifted crvs i have seen are using 235 70 and they seem to fit without any rubbing.
i just found a lift kit for my 09. so i am doing a 2" lift with the 235 70 on a 16" rim. should give it a real beefy look. time to start saving!
This thread is amazing! However I am more confused than ever on lifting my CRV and adding bigger wheels. I'm confused about and would like build specs on:
-OME lift size and contents,
-max wheel sizes without modification to the body or rubbing of tires
-spacer size and type
-bearing wear
-what to do about the camber
Does anybody have purchase specs on a black off road wheel and tire setup with OME lift? I was looking at the BF Goodrich A/Ts. I live in Baja California where I do 40% highway, 40% washboard dirt roads and 20% rocky terrain. I would like to have a smoother ride on the washboards and clearance on the rocky terrain without sacrificing too much of my ride and fuel economy on the highway. (looking for a good balance between the two) I see a lot of people did 15x8 on wheels, is there a benefit to that size over 15x7 or 15x6 for my needs? I would like to retain the turning radius as much as possible.
I have a 2001 CRV with 160k. Should I also think about replacing or upgrading any other suspension parts that get worn out after 16 years of use?
I found a kit that is better than OME's. it is a little more expensive but it comes with new shocks as well. It is also 2" lift rather than 1.75". It's my only option since the OME kit doesn't fit on mine. As for tires I would go with the bf Goodrich or firestone destinations a/t. The firestones are a little nicer in the Hwy. As for size, I think the safest bet when it comes to custom wheel set is to do the lift then go to a local custom wheel shop that way they can try to fit the tire and rim first before you spend $1500 on wheels. I am going to try 16"x7" rims with 225/75r16 firestone destinations M/Ts which are a max traction off road tire and are really chunky. Just trying to be different lol. I am not sure about wear as I am still in the money saving stage. As for camber correction, I know there are kits available for rear camber adjustments. I post link below, they have both a lift kit and camber kits available for first gen V.
@Hatestems I think I would like to go with 16x7 rims as well, just dont completely undersand what type of mods I need to get them on and if there will be adverse performance / safety issues. That lift is almost a grand, I'm not sure I need that extra inch either. I am pretty set on the OME springs and BF Goodrich All Terrains. They both have fantastic reviews and I know I will use the All Terrains when we get into hurricane season and all the roads start flooding and the desert becomes a giant mud pit. Does anybody know the difference on putting 215 vs 225 vs 235's on a 16x7 rim?

Check out General Grabber AT2's for your tires. I am running them in a 215/75/15 on stock suspension height with zero issues. Very smooth and do great off road, plus they are a lot less expensive than BFG's and look/perform the same. Let us know what you end up doing!
