I guess burst into flames isn't enough of a description. It didn't quite blow up but it wasn't far off. I hope both of them died right away in the crash and weren't alive for the fire.
Another article said they died on impact... which made me wonder what kind of course they're running where 2 people dying on impact is even a possibility.
Based on pictures it looks like it happened at the end of the front straight. There is a concrete wall and a valley with a culvert if you blew the first corner and went straight. Even worse there is the blunt end of a concrete wall with only a few tires protecting it if you tried to attempted to make the corner. Really really shitty track design from a safety perspective.
I just watched that in car vid. They have tyre walls at every corner EXCEPT the end of the longest straight. Granted it has runoff area, but njn pointed out there is a culvert and then the concrete wall and the runoff isn't nearly adequate for a car doing 120+ if something fails and the car has limited ability to slow down.
"The concept is completely different," Hasegawa told Motorsport.com's sister publication Autosport. "It's very high-risk, we don't know a lot of things about that new concept. "We know it will give us a performance advantage but the biggest risk is whether we can realise that potential this year."
The unit is set to feature a revised architecture and a new layout in a bid to improve performance and packaging based on lessons learned from the past two seasons.
What little faith I had is rapidly waning. I don't want to be a pessimist but I seem to recall hearing similar quotes before the start of testing in 2015.
I hope so, but I wonder if the White is at the request of Marlboro since they can't put any branding on the car. personally, I'd love to see an all red car with black wings front and rear.
I wonder if the driver thought he was on the binders and was actually still on the gas pedal. That seems to happen more than people want to admit, especially in cars that are not their own. Add the car he was in, that would make the impact a rather terrible thing to be a part of.

The red/black is iconic and wood be great to see. Hopefully it happens but I think we'll still see lots of white on the wings.
If the EU decides to investigate and F1 is found culpable of an abuse of power in the way it handles its affairs, a fine of 10 percent of turnover, which last year was over £1billion, can be levied, as well as forcing a shake up of its structure.

It sounds like they are running it on 3 cylinders. It could also be where they recorded it. If it was in a smaller room that could be echos and not misfires. We won't know what any of them really sound like until they are out on track.
I don't have tons of faith in it right now but I think it will be better than last years PU
Hell maybe they found a way to recover more energy from the exhaust which is why it sounds worse than the other PUs or maybe it has to do with the engine design or the firing order/strategy. Ie a big bang engine
