Tire Recommendations
1992 VX.
Anyone have any tire recommendations? I'm normally quite good about maintenance, but it has become critical that I replace my tires ASAP.
For the moment, I'm going to stick with the stock rims (13").
Right now I'm rocking some (made in Japan!) Toyo Extensa A/S (175/70). Even when they were new, the tires were pretty bad on wet roads — but what's strange is that I couldn't get the car to slide on an empty icy/snowed-over lot.
Regardless, I'm needing an all-season with a better traction rating, but would prefer to stay within the range of about $50-100 per tire.
Thanks.

Theres very few options for 13s.
I used to roll on 185/70 falken sincera, good in dry conditions but in wet is where they lack. Honestly I think with the measly selection their are for 13s, considering the tire pattern alot just don't handle well in wet conditions.
You do know say you get a hx wheel and run 185/55/14 or smaller they will be lighter all around and give same or better fuel economy along with, traction, depending on tire.

I had some Toyos on my EH3 that ran forever, they were great! I do not recall which model Toyo they were, but they were great. I have 14" wheels. I can look it up if you are curious.
The BMW crowd swears by Continental Extreme Contact DWS for a good tire - no idea if they come in a 13"...

Looks like this is the only thing Conti has in a 13" - the EcoContact, which they label as a summer tire:
ContiEcoContact? 5
Might not work for you as you mentioned snow and ice...
I would look at other Toyos

I agree with what white_EG1 said, the size of that tire may be too small to really allow adequate water evacuation. I've had the 14" version of the Toyo Extensa a/s tires, and they are one of the best tires I've ever had. you might want to look into those michelin defenders. My friend had a smaller car with 13" tires and got some michelins a couple years ago. Excellent in all seasons, I was impressed. it all depends on how a tread design works with different sizes. It doesn't mean that one tread design will work for all sizes, even if it comes in those sizes.
The other thing is to get the HX wheels and upgrade to 14" tires. That's a possibility too, the 13" offerings are really limited. Again, Michelin would be my recommendation if you stick with the 13" wheels.
