Default Civic 1997 Hatchback 1.6i D16Y5 engine.

Hi. I am new here and are seeking for any information about automatic transmission that fits my 1997 Civic Hatchback with 1.6i D16Y5 engine.
The problem is my transmission (Chain-driven CVT) is dead and I can't find anywhere the used one, to fix it costs are way too high for me (4 to 8 six times price for what I bought car ),
so I wanna know does anyone know or heard that on this engine type D16Y5 can fit another transmission (automatic) from different year or different engine displacement, I heard that it can have up to 3 different transmissions on that type of Civic in same year.

P.S
I don't know even code nr. of my transmission, nobody find it, probably the label fell off. Even at the Honda retailer service center they couldn't help me to find that number trough VIN at their database.
Hope that you can help me guy's with my problem.

Convert to manual transmission. You'll need to get a matching Y5 ECU and a different O2 sensor.

It's not an option, car is for my wife and she got driving licence only to drive automatic transmission cars. That is my problem.

Swap in a D16Y7 or Y8 engine with the matching auto trans and ECU.

Out of the country. See how he called his civic a 1.6i we don't have that in Murcia.

Yes at least in the USA that engine was only offered with a CVT or a 5 speed manual. The car was called the HX as it is optimized for high mpg. To have the computer and all work with a conventional automatic you need to swap the whole powertrain to a conventional engine instead of the VTEC-E.

Does Europe have to past any emissions inspection? Do they have to plug anything to read the ecu? OP respond.

Yes we have to go car technical inspection every year with emission inspection, but they don't check ecu on such old cars, only starting from 2001.

Your best bet is probably a swap, unless you can find a junked car with the trans you need.

I'd love to try one of these Civics with the CVT, but damn I wouldn't wanna pay thru the nose to fix/maintain it.

Or, get your wife to get her manual license.

I think it's funny you have different licenses though? I thought manual was more the norm in Europe anyway.

So, your wife is dumb? Anyways, take pics of the ecu and a couple pics of the automatic. Need to confirm if its the CVT or a regular 4spd.

I already was at the mechanics, so they disassembled my transmission and said that its cheaper to buy used than reconstruct this one

You last comment contradicts this statement in bold. Buying a replacement will still cost you, buying the wrong transmission will **** you over even more. So you decide which route you want to go or just close this thread since your mechanic told you what the deal is.

Regarding your P.S, take pictures. I didnt' ask you to tell me what code nr (whatever that means) is.
