Default Slow moving fuel gauge & low fuel light issue.

1996 del Sol SI
Stock D16Y8

Searched. https://honda-tech.com/honda-civic-d...-slow-2488076/
No solution posted.

Fuel light does not turn on when at the red line for empty. After refueling, the gauge takes approx 1 1/2 minutes to reach the full mark.

Going to be changing out my fuel pump this weekend and i wanted to know if there was a quick fix that i can do whilst in there.

Normal. The gauge has a resistance to movement so that as you drive its not bouncing around everywhere from fuel sloshing around.

Thanks for the reply.

Sounds plausible Never heard of that before, though.

Any thoughts on the low fuel indicator lamp? Any way to test the bulb without removing the cluster?

The civic actually has a fairly fast moving gauge for an OEM car. My focus never twitches at all, where the civic will change if you are going up or down hill for any length of time.

Hardly "rip apart" the interior .... lift up rear seat, 4 screws on the panel. Honda made it easy!

So this weekend I began the installation of my turbo system.
2 days, a few banged knuckles, and a whole slew of curse words later, the turbo is in and all that is left to complete the setup is wiring in an injector resistor box.

The fuel gauge problem doesn't bother me enough to look into it, i was just curious as to what caused it. Upon removal of the fuel pump apparatus, i discovered an exposed wire. I must've snagged it on the fuel tank lip when removing it. I knew electrical tape would be eaten by the gasoline, so i opted to try and liquid-proof it instead with honda-bond. This was a last ditch effort because i had my dad and friend stumped on how to fix it. anyone see any potential problems with this fix?

Edit: The del Sol interior isn't as bad as i thought! Took me about 25 minutes to take out the necessary trim pieces, and remove the fuel pump apparatus.

Lol at people saying to remove the back seats

93 del sols weren't wired to have a fuel light, your 96 should be though. Possibly just a bad bulb (cluster comes out hella easy, type 74 bulbs). If not the bulb ide blame the sensor near the fuel pump or a cut/ shorted wire

Also i would solder in a wire on the fuel pump end and splice it together away from the gasoline. Put some cured honda bond in a jar of gasoline and see what happens if your curious.

Update: I removed the fuel pump with the Honda bond on it. Turns out Honda bond turns to rubber when submerged in gasoline. When I removed the pump apparatus, the Honda bond was so swollen it was loosely hanging around the wire. Here's a pic. Hondabond fail. The cut wire is visible here as well.

What about liquid electrical tape? Dunno. Check if it has problems with petrol also.
