There is a gs-r I'm pretty close to buying. But I just looked up its vin history, and found that it had a salvage title at one point. Then ownership was changed and new title was issued in a new state. The car now looks excellent and is apparently in mint condition, all stock, with low miles. The seller didn't bother to mention this salvage history. I'll ask about it tmrw.
So what's your take, even though I didn't list too much specific information? How skeptical/suspicious should I be?
Have him give you a full complete car fax to show what the cause of the salvage title is, could of been stolen or lightly hit in a accident like the rear bumper but got touched up and repaired and still good as new besides having a salvage tile history. A stock low mile GSR is hard to find these days dep on where you live.
Thanks man. Good points. Yea I'll find out more. If the salvage wasn't something major then I do want to take advantage of this opportunity. But also want to make sure this is legit.
Find out why the title is salvaged and know that it will make it harder to sell if you ever intend on selling. If this is something you plan on keeping forever, it's not a big deal. Unless it's been totaled and they half *** put it back together or the quarter panels are filled with bondo.

Apparently the salvage was due to a misreported odometer reading/clerical error.
But prior to that, the car was reported stolen. Then recovered a few days later.
I wouldn't worry as long as he has the title. I've seen some super clean cars with something like that cause a title issue. These are such cheap/rare cars now that it won't turn most potential future buyers off either if you plan on ever selling.
Took the plunge. This thing is mint, and drives smooth as butter. Mostly immaculate inside and out, especially interior looks like it's new from the factory. Title is clean btw, the salvage was made back to clean a while back when clerical error was fixed.
I was going to say walk away. Even in that condition and 30k miles my mind would've been giving me signs. Salvaged title.. Stolen/stripped Put back together with a low mile cluster or a rolled back one. Structure issues, wrecked pretty good and had a pro repair it (flawless work).. At the end of the day it's still wrecked vehicle. Last but not least.. 10k for a dc2 gsr.. That's TypeR money, DC5-S or even ap1 price territory. Eh but who cares enjoy it!
looks damn good. I almost bought a one owner 97 ls integra from some little hole in the wall dealer. they were asking like $7500 and I only wanted to pay about $6700, but the place wouldn't budge on the price and the owner was a total *****. I was bummed cause it was so clean, but I found a 99 civic dx hatch that was almost as clean and all stock like the integra. so that's my kick *** story lol.
Lol I'm pretty much obsessed with mint/unicorns. Def will be keeping it stock, that's why I bought this type of Gsr. Actually I did just order a k&n filter. Pretty pricey haha, but also cool that the stock filter shape is that cylinder style. That should be good for at least 50hp. First thing is to try to take care of the exhaust rattle, I think it's the classic a-pipe/y-pipe problem; at least it seems likely when I looked it up online today.
I kind of doubt that it was ever repaired from damage or damaged, and no damage was reported on carfax, though I'm no expert in determining such things. VIN stickers/plates all match on engine, firewall, hood, front fenders for example. It's a gorgeous red.
Pretty sure the interior was kept in a vacuum for 18 years.
that thing is spotless from the looks of it. More pictures please. Also who cares what some of the people in this thread have said, that is a solid purchase. It is very rare to find a car that clean even if worst case scenario someone put it back together. Although having all the matching vin stickers and no visible damage I estimate the likely hood of that is .01%
Agreed. I can't really see a car like this selling for any lower these days. I think there was a gsr on the vehicles for sale page that had like 175k miles and selling for $6k. I imagine a stock gsr with like 75,000, which is super rare anyway, would ask for at least $8k+ and probably get it.
What year? rear bumper looks like a 98 and up GSR. Not that it matters but i do believe the original 98+ gsr's came witht the blade style rims at least mines did those look like the older style gsr rims. Reminds me of my first gsr! it was a 98'' MR just like that and just to good to be true so i drove down to LA to pick it up for $6,500 cash, all mint clean title old man owned! had to buy it was mint inside and out!
Yes you are correct about the blades. This is a '98, and the wheels are the only thing that aren't original. Story is that the previous owner traded wheels with his sister who also had a gsr. Then her car got stolen, so then her rims stayed on this car. This car already has a great history lol. Next up, story about how it won Le Mans.
