re: LightningTeg's 600whp LS to LS-VTEC Build Legacy
looks like you got the hang of the aluminum. when you get your speed and dipping in a good rhythm the welds are gonna look cherry. it looks like your heat is good and your getting good fusion. thats where im struggling right now is speed and dipping rhythm.

That's the pretty side lol. I started on it Wednesday night and I was tired. Really goofed a couple times and contaminated the puddle. I was able to go back over it with the torch to smooth it out but no stack of dimes look. I had the hardest time just tacking the damn thing together lol.
I got back to it last night and cleaned up my work area good and really took my time to get good ergonomics and boom, started to really get it down.
The pedal on the AHP is poop but I'm getting used to it. That' the first upgrade I do for this machine. Once the car is road worthy again I'm building myself a nice beefy steel work table.

thats what i heard, the foot pedal isnt the greatest and takes time getting use to. I also realized real quick getting comfortable and making a trial pass before actually welding will give a good idea of what your gonna do when you have the helmet on. I will move my hand, arm, wrist etc back and forth over again until i find the best way to perform the weld. one of the things i didnt realize at first is pulling the filler rod out of the shielding gas and bringing it back in for a dip will introduce oxygen/contamination and it also cools the puddle down alot cause the filler isnt close enough to the arc to stay preheated and causes the filler to stick a little when dipping and causing a rhythm issue.

I dont like the pedal either but dont really have experience with others
I learned on a scratch start tig so any pedal was good when i tried the ahp
im learning on a lift tig with no foot pedal but i made a cutoff switch that goes to the ground clamp. I used a industrial disconnect and it works like a charm, I will post a video of how it works. I mainly did this so my last bead has gas coverage and doesnt look crappy. It seems that the tungsten looks better and is lasting a little longer between sharpens.

Seems like the best place to me. Definitely better then any previous location I've had a filter.
I've got no A/C dryer or windshield washer fluid bottle anymore so that port is open directly below where the filter is. In the future I will gut the high beam out and run a velocity stack to it. Id also like to put a barrier to seal it of from the rest of the engine bay.
