Shifter wiggles L to R in gear as if in neutral.
going to get under the car maybe something is loose #26 are the bolts but i'll check it all over this is a real pain to deal with. Near impossible to tell what gear I'm in just by looking at it and it feels sloppy to shift. don't think anything's coming loose/will fall out but still
I thought they were both the same? Besides the size. And it has all the similar parts as the first diagram from what I can see. Except for the extension end. And I think you would consider them d series and b series linkages not sohc dohc? Unless there's something new I need to learn. I haven't worked much with b series.
Aren't they both basically the same though? Describe to me the difference, other than the dimensions. And not sure why, I thought there was some older sohc b series motor so I had to ask
They're similar enough that it doesn't matter what diagram you posted if we were talking about a vtec head to a non-vtec head then there'd be too big of a difference in the mechanical components. Didn't get the time to work on the teg as too busy with the civic.
Yeah that's what I thought. I was just wondering what the reasons were to stating it's sohc linkage if it doesn't make a difference to this
Just got under mine and checked. It was what jdmjunkie was saying. The plastic bushings with the rivet are shot. I didn't see any movement with either replaceable bushings. I'm not sure if there's a thread on fixing that already but my plan is to drill out the rivet and find some bushings to replace with if I can and bolt it back together
No, that all comes apart when you unbolt it. There are some o rings you could replace there but it won't be noticeable. It won't show the parts where they're riveted since it doesn't come apart but I circled it. I'm not saying this is where you're problem is but jdmjunkie pointed it out first and I found out I have that problem. And my shifter had as much play in it as yours so it's a good guess that's it. You'll just have to check
now that I think about it the shifter base is connected to the bottom shift linkage if they're cheap enough I may get new ones but I'm hoping this is a 15$ fix. will look into it thx
yes #13 got a chance to look under the car nothing seems out of place/worn. may just replace the lower(#13) linkage at some point don't have the time right now.
well even with the shot engine mounts replaced it still does this not as badly however but still an issue. so new shift linkage time ?
bushings may help a bit but it's the SPRING PIN (#28). If you didn't put it back in and "ghetto rigged" it with a screw/nut, there will be too much play when it's in gear. I've seen countless people have this issue.
*** TIP: In order to remove & install the pin (for dirt cheap), pick up a long carriage bolt (4" long) the same size as the pin. Use it as a punch. Works every damn time for me.

It's a waste of money imo to get a new one. I would just refab the old one. Make it stiffer than a new one for a smaller cost. But that's just me, being a diyer.
