not plug and play. you'll need to do some wiring, VTEC solenoid, VTEC pressure switch, knock sensor, rewire IACV to 2 wire (unless the Y8 came out of an automatic).

Okay, I actually have the opposite. I'm in need of a new tranny (soon not immediately). I have a D16Y7 clean as a whistle with mild tranny issues - can I put the D16Y8 tranny in my sweet ride as a replacement WITHOUT unnecessary roughness and craziness? Obviously swap the clutch, but what else? I ask because I have a D16Y8 tranny available right now!

you can use it. you don't have to swap the clutch, as they are the same.

Since not a single person in this entire thread has been specific, yes, you can swap between MANUAL Y7 and Y8 (LX/DX vs EX) transmissions, but NOT automatics.

he said clutch. you're not swapping clutches out without tearing apart an automatic transmission. it is logical assumption.

There are also a LOT of people out there that don't realize that an automatic transmission has a flywheel and torque converter sitting between the motor and transmission, and just think everything has a magical clutch down there. Rule #1 of giving any kind of advice: The only assumption you should make is that the other guy has absolutely no idea what they're talking about.

Which is good advice, because I don't. I have a D16Y7 5 Speed Manual. I meant a new clutch since I'm ripping it apart anyways. My engine is too good to toss it just yet. Just typical Honda 2nd gear deterioration. (Been doing my homework :-))
