Well Kennedy's a no go for me. If it isn't a Porsche or VW tranny, they're not doing it!

wow that sucks. Just out of curiosity are you totally against going to a b-series engine?

I am for a couple reasons:

The class I race in has a displacement based weight limit. The bigger the motor, the heavier the car has to be.

The D series setup is probably 30-40lbs lighter than the B series I would replace it with.

I have a fully built D series engine and an M62 Endyn D series kit already. I'd be out a bunch of cash if I tried to change to a B series now.

I was at one point considering building this car with a B20Vtec and JRSC/LHT/Endyn setup. I had about 90% of the parts already in place. All I needed were pistons and to build the motor. I already have a CRV transmission and I at that time had the mounts, etc... Then I looked at things from a different perspective:

I'll have about 90-95% the power of the B series with the D series (I hope!).

The car will weigh about 120 lbs less than it would with the B series (both lighter engine and less ballast). This is good because a lot of that is over the front wheels, so I'll have better weight distribution.

I have a little bit of time with the D series setup already, so I'm a long way there already. The motor is together, the blower kit is all sorted out, the mounts are a cake walk (OEM for the most part), I have a clutch and flywheel already, and the reduced power will help the drivetrain survive a bit longer (again, I hope!).

Jaques

that's too bad man! I bet it isn't hard to make your own adapterplate, just take the time to make 2 masters and overlap them, spacer the flywheel and weld the spacer to it and re-balance....it takes time and a big chunk of aluminium.....but I bet you can do it....

By the way, a K20 is lighter than a B series, if you hadn't invested so much already, I'd go for the K20 with awd Stream transmission....

Mocked up some things today. As was expected I need a camber correction kit (which was planned anyhow!) though it is not much, I already anticipated this since when I compared the arms it seemed the awd arm with crv bearing and itr hub needed a wheel with a lower offset to be able to clear the arm itself, I discovered this when I put on the btcc wheel which is 8x19 etc +55. However conclusion is I need to lower the engine about 2 cm's and then I will be allright. The downward angle of the driveshaft will be reduced since I now mocked it all up with a stock shock and spring and it will be lowered drastically.

Angle which is more likely on another car (EK/ K20) I'm building, although this car also needs more lowering of approximately 4cm

situation with bone stock spring/shock....

axle clearance along the lower LCA mounting point:

damn you got the ballerific spherical bearing version F7s

also, arent the awd trailing arms taller than stock civic ones. so if you lower the upper control arm mounting point, couldn't you reduce the positive camber and provide more clearance for your wheels.

yeah, just had to get the spherical ones

The arms are indeed a little bit taller but with a camber correction arm I can solve this easily instead of cutting up the arm again and potentially weakening it there. The camber kit I needed anyhow so that will be the best solution to both problems.

Just finished reading the whole thread, congratulations on your project and its progress so far. Things like this take a LOT of effort to plan out. I will be following this further as it goes, and hoping for the best when its finished! Once again, congrats!

Matt and @ all

thanks for the kind words, this project takes a lot of time and effort and I'm deliberately taking my time to make sure all is done right the first time..what i'll end up with is unsure and things may change in time but I'm fairly sure this project will be brought to a good end

Thanks again

Randall

been busy installing the left airjack with it's mounting tube and welding it into the widest part of the oem rear main beam staying clear of the main trailing arm bushing mounting points and had some fun with it:

uhh... wow. I hadnt even realized what those were when you posted the 1st pics of them. I kinda thought they were some sort of weird remote reservoir shox that I had never seen before :duh:

awesome. I've been around a long time in a lot of different circles and this is definitely one of the coolest builds I've ever been witness to
